I just think on this website there should be a classified section or a wanted to buy section... I know there are alot of ball players on here and the trade of goods through the community would only help save the hassle and costs of Ebay. I don't know if the members on the board are trustworthy enough (no disrespect), but it has worked well on other boards I've been on.
Cheers,

We mods have heard the suggestions for allowing sales, and we drew the line at trades of items. I don't expect that decision to be revisited any time soon, as there's a lot of ramifications (legal, moderating, good of the forum) that we'd prefer to avoid from allowing sales. You can PM another user and make whatever private arrangements you wish, but you must understand this is completely outside of the jurisdiction of the site and at your own risk.

Last year a member got "screwed over" by purchasing baseball cards from another member. THAT is one of the reasons (if not the main reason) why we do not allow purchases here.

How can you be certain that there are lots (if any) MLB players on here? Or were you referring to Minor Leaguers?
I don't see why, if someone hasn't come out and declared that they are a big-name player, manager, reporters, front office personnel, ex-player, etc, that they would be willing to give out their address or agent's address in order to make this quicker route possible. I wouldn't like to be in a position to verify that people are who they claim. If not verified, then anybody who knows a lot about a player can simply claim to be that person.
I won't recommend a specific auction website, but at least Ebay has the ratings system, whereby people give favorable or unfavorable comments regarding the authenticity and honesty of the sellers and buyers. Since they make money off each sale, they can afford to have those features.
You may also wish to check for the local player appearances, card shows and the like. I don't expect signed bats, cards and other memorabilia sales to be allowed on here anytime soon. Too much trouble doing so, since we're just here to enjoy baseball discussion. :)

Well said. I guarentee that there are no more than 10 MLB players on here if that many.

You can guarantee that? Have you asked Sean?
cdn_ball might simply be referring to ball players in geenral, not just MLB players. From MLB to the little leaguers to the beer league softball players to just families who like to have a catch when they can.

I was just saying that. I didn't ask Sean. I'm pretty sure that there aren't more than 10 MLB players on here.

Not to be a bozo folks, but as long as I am mod of that section there will never be any money transactions taking place.
If there ever is a vote to decide on a classified section, I will vote no.

He has stated otherwise, not that those players or any others who've made the ranks have chosen to remain anonymous behind their username or just enjoy the discussion or use the Almanac for research or whatever.

The real Bozo just passed recently. :(
I have to side with Tony, here. Way too much of a hassle, especially when things go wrong. There's a good reason why the public forums are not to be used for advertising purposes.

One guy who was on the Mets forum for a week claimed to be Bobby Valentine. Nobody belived him though.

I'll try checking out your link later on.
I've only known one household name player who posted on a baseball discussion board, and that was Curt Schilling. Since he worked with Varitek in using computer anakysis of the opposing hitters, he was computer literate, typed a lot. He'd started the game threads on Sons of Sam Horn (aka, SoSH), a Red Sox forum, did this for games he'd pitched in.
The Admins of another forum then verified his identity (one of the Admins on the 2nd site was a forumer on SoSH) and did a rather long interview in which he discussed a lot about baseball, himself and Boston.
We've had hiddengem on here, which is the only MLB and/or MiLB I've known to be here. If someone of Bobby Valentine's stature wishes to come here as him/herself, I would suggest that he/she email the Admins and we'll see how this can be verified.
i would think there would be more journalists & scouts on here than anyone else. With so many highly knowledgeable people able to have long duels (they can seem beyond ordinary debates) about players' Hall of Fame worthiness, who the 3rd best catcher in history was, vivid recollections of events that occurred 40-60 years ago, even if told to them by their parents, I'd think they would be more prominent here.
If I were a player, I would spend most of my in-season time improving my skills. Only for an ex-player would I likely spend time here. Then again, a few card shows and other appearances may be of interest also.

I know for a fact there is a ex yankee pitcher from the 60's who was a member here. I say was because he has not posted in a few yrs.
When I first joined he and I spoke via pm's, and then it went to phone calls.
I moved to a different hose and somehow (stupid me!) lost his cell number. Numerous attempts to pm him turned out nothing. Not sure if I can post his name here or not. But hey, if you REALLY want to know who it was... pm me.
P.S.
Brad: Would it be cool if I were to post his name here?

I wouldn't recommend posting anyone's real name here. Even if it were that person, unless they gave you explicit approval to do so, I would avoid doing so.
With hiddengem, he didn't want anyone using his name, even though that was the absolutely worst kept secret on here. People would note his ABs, his being sent down, his being brought back up, when he switched from one organization to the next.
You can send the name to a few trusted individuals privately, but I wouldn't put that into a public post. This is especially true since these threads are tied to google and other search engines. Anyone typing in that person's name may come to that thread even if they'd never otherwise been on BBF.

I wouldn't say that's Bobby Valentine. I would think that he would have more decency than to post in that style, replying, "YES YES YES" when asked if he was the real Bobby V.
I remember we had one Yankee forumer who used to go by the name "Rickey Henderson" and would often refer to himself in the 3rd person. "Rickey don't like __" or something similar.
If there's anybody here who is famous, then they can simply keep it under wraps. If they would like to be interviewed, host a discussion thread, etc, and their identity can be confirmed, then they can simply contact the Admins. Otherwise, I wouldn't trust anyone claiming to be a famous sports personality.
