Ken Rosenthal is actually acknowledging there are teams in Cincinnati and Chicago?

hmm....thoughts?

I always thought that Junior would stay with Cincy for the remainder of his career. But the questions is: Who are the ChiSox getting in return...

Where will Griffey play? They already have Quentin in left, Swisher in center, Dye in right, Konerko at first, and Thome at DH. Perhaps they are trading Swisher? Or have Griffey play first an get rid of Konerko?

well, personally if I were Ozzie I would more then likely sit Swisher and Konerko (share time at 1b between the 2) but then again it isn't like Griffey is hitting the cover off the ball these days and playing a Gold Glove caliber OF either

haha never even thought of that. I always thought Junior would look good coming out of the pen for that lefty lefty matchup... :noidea

Well Swisher is hitting .230, maybe they are going to bench him and use him as a backup OF/1B? But Konerko is hitting just .214...

Would Griffey accept a trade to become a part-time player, even to a contender? I would not think so, but if he really wants that ring, or even a chance at a pennant . . .

I think they should sit somebody. Atleast momentarily. Just too see how Griffey does.

I think a change of scenery could do wonders from Junior.

I'm glad he is on a team with a chance.

I hope he gets that ring soon.

Dumb trade for the White Sox, IMO.

I don't get this trade at all unless the Sox have another trade that is contingent on this one. And Griffey is not exactly tearing up the NL this season.

Have they announced what they have to give up yet? If it's not much, it's not a dumb trade.

It still is a dumb trade because they have no where to play Griffey.

When you have players barely above Mendoza, they'll find a place.

Reds get Danny Richar & Nick Masset

Let me rephrase that ... they just got rid of Griffey

White Sox are going to bench Konerko (or maybe trade him- but Ozzie just confirmed he is benched.)

Don't forget there are still trades to be made, and the White Sox are known lately for shaking things up. Expect another move soon from them.

Just to think, I can remember 15 years ago sitting around drawing up trade ideas for the Cubs and White Sox to get this guy, giving up usually a center fielder, another major position player, a good starting pitcher, and "someone from the farm". I never imagined he'd actually be (likely) coming to Chicago, and for so much cheaper. While he's clearly well beyond him prime, I still like seeing the guy in Chicago just for who he is.

This trade makes no sense to me. If they are going to sit Konerko - even though Konerko is sucking badly this year, Ken griffey isn't a whole lot better. Adjusted for stadium, the gap is numbers is even less, as Cincinnati's stadium is one of the most hitter friendly in baseball. This trade makes no sense.

The good news is that they didn't seem to give up a whole lot. They can go with a 3 player platoon and play the hot guy.

Jr. is coming on board to play CF. He doesn't have the skills anymore. The pitchers will suffer from this... Be prepared to see a lot of doubles in the gaps.

As a Tigers fan I can only pray you're right.

But according to Kenny Williams, CF is the easiest OF position from a health perspective...........

I'm laughing at this one... Give Jr. a month or so. He'll be on the DL with an achilles or hammy injury.

Actually, Griffey is getting hot now, a 12 game hitting streak the last 12 games as a Red... The Reds got Nick Masset and Danny Richar so I would say the White Sox got the better deal.

If not for the awful humidity in Kansas City Griffey came close to homering last night.

Well, you know what Ichiro says about the heat in KC in August!

(Actually he probably got that from Ibanez.)
