what happens when you counter rotate your shoulders back too much?? I feel like I really load my shoulders back away from the pitcher to help with power. Could it be a deception. I know the perception of power can be a really funny thing especially with the baseball swing.

I know I lose my vision in my back eye. I don't think you have to counter rotate as a way of loading. I think an amount of stretch is important to drive the swing but can be reached by getting the hands and arms back without counter rotation of the shoulders.

EL,

As a caviot, can you tell how come these guys "appear" to get away with it?

Look which way their shoulders move when they swing. Most hitters (who counter rotate) make a hard turn to the left in a more horizontal plane.

Not bad Steath. But everyone who starts the launch tilted toward the plate will usually rotate on a tilted plane. Remember "Tiltation"?........:dance

But it really doesn't answer HOW they can be so counter rotated and still get back to the zone............

Anyone else wanna venture an answer before I offer an answer?

Here's a hint........Are they "really counter rotated?".........

it looks like soriano rotates everything including his legs and hips towards the back of the plate i have know idea if this has anything to do with counter rotating or close to anything correct but its physics the more force or rotation you have towards the back of the plate the more force and momentum you will have coming towards the pitcher that might be why they can get away with it. i love newtons laws. but i have no idea if this is anything close so dont bash me for it if i am wrong just a guess

Winner!

True counter-rotation happens when the shoulders excessively mis-align behind the hips causing several problems including:

1.) lack of ability of the hips to drive the upper torso/shoulders in time to square the bat head.

2.) trapping the hands behind the swing.

3.) excessive spining.

IMO, what we see above is exagerated hip cock that make is "appear" that the shoulders are counter rotated.

In reality, as the hips open into plant, the shoulders are not far behind, and are squared to a "normal" separation distance between the two.

There is a difference between exagerated hip cock coupled with shoulder loading, and counter rotation of the shoulders moving excessively behind the hips causing severe spinal misalignment...........:dance
