Four players have hit 40+ home runs and stole 40+ bases in the same season: Jose Canseco, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, and Alfonso Soriano. Will anyone ever hit 50+ home runs and steal 50+ bases in the same season? Which current player has the best chance?

Doubt it, but you never know. I could see Sizemore, or maybe someone like Cameron Maybin eventually going 40/40.

I dont think we will anytime soon. 50HR's is once again looking like a bigger deal now that HR totals are falling.
The last 12 50HR seasons and SB totals:
Arod 07: 54-24
Fielder 07: 50-2
Howard 06: 58-0
Ortiz 06: 54-1
Jones 05: 51-5
Arod 02: 57-9
Thome 02: 52-1
Bonds 01: 73-13
Sosa 01: 64-0
Gonzalez 01: 57-1
Arod 01: 52-18
Sosa 00: 50-7

Only Arod last year showed real base stealing ability and he'd need to double his career high SB total to have a chance at a 50-50 season. The Ortiz/Howard type hitter may hit 50 homers but no chance in hell of getting even double figure stolen bases.

Soriano wasn't too far off a few years ago, but the Cubs are not nearly aggressive enough on the basepaths for him to be able to even approach 50 steals with them, and by the time he's gone from there he'll be 38 years old.

Now that steroids are on their way out I don't see any speedy players being able to put up 50 home runs in a season, and anyone able to put up 50 home runs able to steal 50 bases in a year. A-Rod's about the closest thing to that type of player that I think we'll see for quite some time.
