I was just taking photos at the Braves game and was wondering if these photos would show two professional players with bat drag in their swings (Pujols and Francoeur)?
Obviously, most of Pujols swings are better than this one...but it does look like his elbow is leading his hands on this swing and his left arm is relatively straight.

neither one shows bat drag. the angle you have taken the pitcher is a bit misleading, but from the side I think you would see that Pujols has his hands and elbow and stripe down his pant leg lined up. He was fooled here, so it isn't a pretty swing...but let me assure you, he does not have bat drag. 2nd photo is too soon to tell, but I can guarantee here also...no bat drag.

what you can't tell by just looking at those pictures is how much tension is in the elbow
Imagine hiding your hands from the pitcher as you load. Try to extend your arm as much as possible. It is hard, because there is tension in the elbow.
Now put your arm perpendicular to your torso (just straight out in front). You can extend easily.
The difference is separation and bar. An arm bar is a locked arm. What you see is what Dr. Chris Yeager calls lead arm extension.

read my above post
You have what they have in your swing. Remember the whole arm bar vs lead arm discussion.

GC, you're not equating bat drag (rear elbow problem) with lead arm extension are you?

Mud-
Bat drag is not a rear elbow problem- it is a top hand problem--you need to see Dr. Yeager....

Ah yes, thank you for the correction, I do have his stuff and he emailed me the top hand fix a few weeks ago for my youngest son. In discussion here however, the symptom has always been discussed/debated and not necessarily the cause and the visual indicator is more elbow then hand, so I was trying not to confuse things more then they already are.
But I do understand and agree with what you're saying, thanks again. :highfive:

no I am saying that pujols is not barring his arm or dragging the bat.

Do you mind explaining the Yeager fix, and as a follw up....if it works.
I have my own 3 year study on the matter, and it not what most people think.

What is it that positions the top hand?
The muscles of the forearm.

Just saw this. The arm, shoulder, torso...whole body really. The hand can grip. The problem of bat drag is the top hand elbow leading with the arm laid over away from the body like the famous pic of the Dominican kid from another thread on her. The result is the hand is put in the postion Yeager describes. Good understandable check point for a kid.
