ok let me rephrase the title...I know what the walk up drill is but what does it promote??
I can tell that when I do it I feel like my hands naturally load back (or maybe they stay still and I "walk away" from them).
So does it promote or help teach seperation??
I also notice that when I do it I sorta feel my back foot raise up like its supposed to. It doesnt do that in my normal swing.
anybody know?????? thanx!!

I think it helps to feel the weight shift.
How to keep the head still.
To seperate the hands back or get the box stretched at toe touch
To feel what it is like to hit against a firm front leg.
I think there is right ways and wrongs ways to do this drill.

It's primarily to show hitters what weight shift is.

cool thanx for the response guys!!
The way that I do it is as follows:
I take a couple steps back from the ball then my normal stance would be (towards the catcher)....I then take one step backwards (toward 1st base dugout I'm a righty).....I stand facing the ball on the tee at a 45 degree angle and I take my first step with my back foot crossing over my front leg. My left leg naturally follows and my body coils and I explode into the ball.
I think this drill is great but the problem I have with it is that I can't "bring this feeling" into my normal swing from a "static" stance. I obviously don't swing like this in a game. I wish there was a way to better develop the same goals of this drill but in a more static position. A stance that one would normally be in instead of walking up and cross stepping to the ball. I do feel my body do some different things and I feel more explosive this way but I'm just worried that it's a waste of time doing this drill over and over again if it won't implement into my normal swing.
I am not stating this as facts because I have barely done the drill so please don't take it that way. I am just questioning the drill before I do it X amount of times over and over and over again. I certainlly don't want to be wasting my valuable time. So to sum this up I guess can anybody out there give credit to this drill for helping a hitter in any way, shape, or form?? Thank you!!

Different drills are made to work on different parts of the swing.
My dd and I have around 8-10 different drills. I got these from a past olympic hitting coach
We use the walk up as one of them
A couple drills are from other hitting coach's.
We hit 10 - 15 balls on each drill. Some times more. That ends of being 100-120 swings. If we get that in twice a week, I am happy with it.:)
I am sure other hitting guys want you swinging the bat more.

Yes. I teach Yeager's work and use this drill for kids who have problems "squishing the bug" or other cues that ruined their swings in Little League. With use of video comparing two swings, they begin to understand the differences very quickly.

Does anyone have a clip of this drill in action? If so I would like to see it.
