Hitting for the cycle

Let's say a batter has a double, a triple and a home run when he comes up to bat in the 8th inning. He hits the ball up the alley for what would ordinarily be a double. But he stops at first base.

A) Is he credited with hitting for the cycle?

B) Should he be credited with hitting for the cycle?

if he stops at first then that's a single

yes he will get the cycle

and he should be credited for the cycle

He may get the bench the next game though...
