I found this today: http://www.hardballreport.com/content/view/1409/69/

What it basically confirms is that Billy Beane is the best general manager in the game, and that Joe Blanton is a worse than average pitcher (something I could have told the Phillies).

The reasoning is that Blanton's success at home is in large part due to a pitcher friendly park, and the Phillies of course have a launching pad for their home park.

So, I guess the point is that we ripped off the Phillies. Do you all agree with that, or would you rather try to catch the Angels next year with Blanton? Related, should we give up Huston Street this year if we can get a similar package as the Phillies gave us for Blanton?

oh hell yah, after the amount of guys the A's have traded away this year to get younger talent, why stop now. Put Huston on the trading block and see what other young up and coming minor leaguers you can get for him. Dont want to be negative but it doesnt look like the A's are going to be making any run for the playoffs now. So why not get some more young guns and try and have around a .500 year and start preparing a team for future playoffs.

Sometimes you have to shoot a hostage.
