When i pitch you can hear the laces hiss all of the way to the plate, i throw about 70-73 Mph. When other kids on my team pitch (about 65-68 they throw) the ball dosen't hiss nearly as much. Why does the lases on the ball hiss so loud that i can hear them well i'm pitching, and they don't for the other kids?

Man, you must have super hearing. Usually, you can't hear the hiss of the laces unless you're close to the ball, and I never hear hissing unless the ball is going above 85mph.

You probably get a lot more rotation or spin on the ball than your teammates. The speed of ball rotation and it's forward speed create the sound.

I can hear the laces hiss when I play catch with certain people. One guy I'm thinking of, ex-hs pitcher, gets a lot of spin on the ball when he throws. He throws a football the same way - it's hard to catch sometimes because he puts so much spin on it.

I never heard the hissing until 90. The couple of pitchers I faced who threw upper 90's sounded like steaks on a grill.

can you post your pitching delivery?

the noise is from how much spin is on the ball.

MLB hitters say that Papelbon's fastball is deafening. Not only is it coming in hot, Papelbon gets unbelievable backspin on his four-seam fastball.
