Don't know how many of you heard about this - it's a first for me - but apparently the Hall has responded to the widespread criticism over O'Neil's exclusion from the last round of negro league inductees by creating the Buck O'Neil Lifetime Achievement Award (http://web.baseballhalloffame.org/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071025&content_id=5310&vkey=hof_pr). O'Neil will be honored this weekend as the first recipient.

It's nice to see the Hall do something right for a change.

I suppose it should be considered as the HoF trying to make amends for the disaster that was the Negro Leagues Committee, but I don't know how you make it right. To tell us that Buck wasn't HoF material was acceptable, but to tell me 17 other people were is just beyond comprehension.

That is nice. It's just a shame that they waited until he passed away to honor him.
