For those that don't know, the Florida Marlins and MLB have been trying to build a new retractable roof stadium in South Florida. They have settled on the site of the Orange Bowl. They have reached a deal with the local government for tax payers to pay for some of the project.

It is also be bunched in a so-called "megaplan" that "will expand two community redevelopment taxing districts and then use the money to build a port-to-interstate tunnel and do a number of other civic improvements. In doing so, they would be able to free up money to help the Florida Marlins build a retractable roof stadium at the former Orange Bowl site" (http://cbs4.com/local/miami.dade.carlos.2.773251.html

Local Car dealer and former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles Norman Braman "challenges the legality of the $3 billion community development package, which includes a new stadium for the Marlins, because city and county leaders never gave residents the chance to vote on whether public money should be spent on the projects". He is suing to force a public vote on the issue as a referendum (a vote, a new poll suggests would go against the stadium).

I was wondering what everyone here thought... 1. Will the suit be successful? 2. Is the suit fair?

Well, the Judge has delayed a key ruling about the need for a referendum. [Judge] Cohen said she'll wait to make a decision on a key remaining count until the Florida Supreme Court finishes work on a case involving the use of public money without a vote. The justices are on break until the end of August.

The announcement enraged the defense, which had won every key ruling until now but fears a delay could doom the team's long-sought dream stadium.

...or maybe they'll take a detour to Portland? ;)

I knew this whole new stadium idea was too good to be true.

Just move the team already. Even if they built a new stadium that was the best ever no one would go. Miami just has old people.

San Antonio, Las Vegas, Orlando, Salt Lake City, Portland, Charlotte, Monterrey, northern New Jersey, Norfolk, and San Juan were the places discussed last time.

San Antonio made a true push in '06... only to be turned down.

If they move, my money is on Portland or Charlotte.

I think there is a market in South Florida.... I just don't know how to reach it.

Wherever it is... there were less than 15,000 people in the stands for a team that just moved into second place and are one game out of first... I hope for them to thrive down there... but every time they seem to get it together it just falls apart.

Note to Bud Selig:

Just give it up already and get over it...South Florida is a lost cause at this point. It's pretty obvious that you won't ever connect with the fanbase there.

Wow, and this is what happens to you when you're negligent, stubborn, and uninformed all at the same time.
