justice never won an mvp he was just good never great and he got to 300 HR but milestones dont matter they dont make you great just someone who played a long time if justice played for 35 years he would be the alltime hr leader instead of Bonds but it wouldn't make him great only a guy who played a long time to reach a milestone.

he didn't get enough hits, only 1571, but if he did get more it wouldnt matter because he would still be only good never great even if he got 3000 but especially if he got 3000 he was the rookie of the year in 1990 though so he should be in the hall.

Very good player, but not a HOF'er.
He'll never even get close.
Pretty good power (305 HR)...but a short career.
Career .378 OBP......not bad. But hardly HOF worthy.
He WAS married to Halle Barry....but that was before she got really hot.
Haha...OK, just kiddin around...final verdict:
Very Good Player.
NOT a Hall Of Famer.

Is this a serious conversation? If so, I'd appreciate it if the OP could post an argument as to why (s)he thinks Justice is a HOFer so we have something to reply to. ;)

I do not think he is a Hall of Famer. I just wanted to see what other people thought about it. It is funny to be scrutinized for just wanting other peoples opinions.

Fair enough. I wasn't trying to scrutinize you. Just looking for your opinion on him.

IT just sounded you were applying that Justice was some horrible player and how dare I ask if he is a HOFer

That's harder to do than you might think.

Bravo, sir.

(I'm really sorry he chose David J, who I love, will defend in any argument and always talk up.)

Justice had a fine career, but it was not HoF caliber. He was a corner Ofer during the most prolific hitting era since the 1930's and barely had 300 HR's and didn't reach 1600 hits.

David Justice was one of my favorite players when he was playing. Unfortunately, he didn't stick around long enough to compile convincing counting stats and didn't have an amazing peak or do something better than anyone else in the league at the time. He's nowhere near the HOF for me. I was just surprised to see his name in the HOF forum and when I saw your screen name, assumed you did support him and was interested in hearing your argument in his favor. Apologies if I came off differently. That wasn't my intention. ;)

Justice was either a great player, or very close to being great, from 1990-97. During that period, Justice had an Offensive Winning Percentage around .700. If he had kept that up, he would have been a stronger candidate.

Justice had problems with injuries throughout his career, and his performance markedly diminished after 1997. His early demise makes his stats look a little more impressive than they would be had he played 2-3 more years.

Justice started right out over .700 in OWP, so if he had gone the minor league route rather than the college route, he would have racked up better counting stats. That didn't happen, so we'll never know.

Justice is not a HOFer, but he's closer than I thought.

justice was on three all star teams thats more than bert blyleven or heinie groh and you guys think theyre hall of famers. basides who sounds more like a hall of famer a guy named justice or a guy named heinie i rest my case.

justice use to do headfirst slides wearing nipple rings lets see bobby grich or reggie smith do that huh huh i didnt think so that theres hall of fame gnarly justice is a real man like james bond and ted turner.

Shooting down arguments is fine. But, please don't mock the person making the argument, that's not necessary.

An OPS+ of 129 in 6601 PA's for a corner outfielder isn't enough IMHO. Also BF1984, if Justice is a HOFer, Jim Thome is Lou Gehrig.

I agree with you, though probably for a host of different reasons.

Good player. Nice career. Not Hall-worthy.

If you go back and look at my first post (http://www.baseball-fever.com/showpost.php?p=1245500&postcount=11) in this thread, you'll see the same thing phrased in a more light-hearted way, but the answer's still the same. ;)

If inducted, David Justice would not be the worst player in the Hall of Fame. That puts him in the Gray Area.

Election to the Hall should always be aimed towards voting in the BEST candidates first. From my view, there are only a handful of corner-OF/1B types in the Hall who were worse than Justice. In the Ultimate Quest project he did not rank among the top 50 eligible candidates from the 1980's/90's. In the 2008 BBWAA election, Justice was named on only one ballot, one and done.

This all implies that there are easily 200 more qualified candidates for the Hall than Justice. I'd say his Hall chances are fairly remote.
