Patsy Donovan played from 1890 to 1907, although he didn't play in 1905. Over those 17 seasons, Donovan collected 2253 hits, stole 518 bases and hit .301. Despite having solid numbers overall, he led the league only once in a category: stolen bases in 1900.

Donovan had 17 postseason at bats. He hit .471 with five runs and three RBI (and three stolen bases).

He also convinced the Red Sox to sign Babe Ruth, if that's noteworthy or not is up to you.

So, should Patsy Donovan be in the Hall of Fame?

That pretty much sums up my vote.

A career 97 OPS+ for a rightfielder, and you're asking if he belongs in the Hall? Tom Brown was a better player, and his "case" is absurd.

That's calling them like you see them. I almost had a better career than Patsy Donovan and I never played.

He was on Billy Hamilton's most similar list. Ergo, I felt...obligated...(ahem ahack) to start a page for him.
