I believe most people would be shocked if Bentancourt remained with Seattle past '08. His defense has declined and his plate discipline will never improve. With that said, who will be the Mariners '09 opening day shortstop? The only reason he would stay is his $ 2 mil salary. In other words he's cheap. They can't afford to continue to have Lopez, who will stay, either at second or third, Johjima, who will be impossible to move and Yuni in the same lineup. They need to move away from the right handed, no on base hack machines. It hasn't and won't work.

--We really don't have any other options close to MLB ready in the system. I would be surprised if Yuni wasn''t our 2009 SS, rather than shocked if he was. Not that I wouldn't be open to moving him.
--I've read that the Dodgers are offering a nice package of prospects for Jack Wilson to replace the injured Furcal. Maybe we should offer Yuni as an option for them and see what we could get. They are deep in the outfield. If we could get Kemp (unlikley but you never know) or Either that would give us an outfield upgrade and allow Ibanez to shift to 1B/DH to prepare for next year (I'm assuming we resign him). The Dogers are also supposedly interested in Sabatthia, but don't have the prospects to land him and a SS. Perhaps we could give them Washburn in a package with Betancourt.
--I definately agree that we are both too RHed and have too many guys who won't work the count or take a walk. Changes do need to be made. Yuni isn't first on my list, but he is proving to be a defensive disappointment (his offense is at least acceptable from SS) and may have some trade value.

Yuni needs a new batting stance, and his swing is hideous...and he can't run. Sorry, I thought I'd use this thread to vent.

I wanna see Willie get a permanent spot in the lineup in '09.
He is a very talented person that would definetly attribute success.

You're joking right? I guess having a sense of humor is good thing to have while enduring this joke of a season.

I thought that Betancourt would eventually walk a little more and strike out less but this must be wishful thinking on my part. He'll never hit over .289 or have a OBP over .300. He's on pace for 20 plus errors this year at SS.

Bentancourt is not the answer, but Bloomquist isn't either. Bloomquist is a pinch runner. Hopefully 2008 will be the last season Bloomquist wears a Seattle uniform.

The Mariners selected middle INF Reegie Corona in the Rule 5 Draft. He played last year at AA Trenton (NYY). He'll be the backup SS and 2B. Light hitting switch hitter.

Ibanez's off-season conditioning program will drop Betancourt's body fat % to around 7%. Betancourt will be ready.:laugh

I think it's Yuni, he's not the best, but there are also worse.

I would like to see Matt Tuisopo get a shot at the big league soon, talented minor leaguer, could be the IF of the future.

Betancourt will be the shortstop but, Zduriencik is still looking for a veteran backup.

Is it time to give Cedeno an extended look at short? 2 more errors for Yuni on Sunday.

--Cedeno desrves the job for now. Can Betancourt be sent to Tacoma? I think that might be the better place for him than the bench. He'll just get fatter and lazier if he gets to sit all day.

Kevin Callabro (sp?) former Sonics announcer, current Sounders announcer, seems to agree with this according to his last ESPN radio show. He was pretty frustrated that Yuni didn't have his head in the game last outing and missed 2 double play opportunities.

Was listening to the radio when Shannon Dreyer broke the story. Great news, and got 2 pitchers to re-stock our depleted minor leagues system.

Apparently, one of the guys we got is a top pitching prospect from their organization. Although he's had a couple minor run-ins with authority. I'm definitely excited about the trade.

Know you just need a SS:).

Do you have any prospects in your minor league system?
