My question to you is, what will you be willing to do in the off season that others won't do? This will contribute to your ability to sustain that success.

in the offseason, i usually go to a batting cage 2 times a week, and get hitting lessons 1 time a week (Live in NH). In my garage i have a mini lite golf ball pitcher and I take around 50-100 swings off that in a 2-3 day times span, i lift weights (only with my legs) 2 times a week. I also take 20-30 swings a day off of a batting tee.

On June 3rd I played in my first competitive game in 11 years.
I was part of an alumni team that played the local Legion team.
I was 2-3, HR, 2B, 4 RBI.
Now I am waiting for the Mens League in Billings to start.

Does men's slow pitch softball count? If so, it wouldn't matter anyway because I'm not doing that well there either. lol.

I don't play.. but my 10 year old son is making improvements..
the first half of the season he hit nothing but ground balls.. probably was hitting somewhere around .150...
then I found this site and we went to work on getting him away from the linear swing and more rotational...
over the last 2-3 weeks he has started hitting line drives.. he's still struggling with some things.. but he's hitting the ball much harder and in the air.. we're definitely on the right track.
Is there a better feeling in the world than watching your kid turn on a fast ball and line a frozen rope into the gap?
Doubt it.
Thanks to all of you who post here - great site and we have learned a lot.

So is it OK to brag about the boy in this thread? My son just finished LL 9/10 AS districts. He's league-age 9 and is batting clean-up. In seven games he drove in 16 runs (but who's counting) and pitched 6 shut-out innings. They went 7-0 and they're headed to the state tournament in a couple weeks.

I watched my son's swing go to hell in JV ball. The pitching wasn't nearly has good as 14U USSSA Majors. He started opening up too soon. This led to dragging his hands forward out of the ready position before starting his swing. He only saw two or three good pitches a game. He walked or was hit usually twice a game (leads off and crowds the plate). He hit the softest .300+ I've ever seen. It was mostly flares off the end of the bat, beating out grounders and bunts.
When 16U USSSA Majors started his swing still wasn't right despite working hard on it. With the level of pitching he was facing I think he struck out seven of his first ten at-bats. He was moved to last in the order He kept plugging and taking a lot of BP. The last two weekends he's started driving the ball again. He's back in the two slot. I'll guess his average is somewhere between .275 and .300. He's not walking as much. I told him the way out of a slump is hacking your way out, not thinking your way out. Stats don't matter. His swing is back where it should be. He could have played Junior Legion if it was important to hit .500. Most importantly, his team of all fifteen year olds (son and two others are 14U eligible) is playing over .500 ball in 16U USSSA Majors.
The interesting thing was watching him deal with the first time the game wasn't easy. I didn't have travel and playing up. I never found the game difficult until college. The toughest thing we had at fifteen was Babe Ruth all-stars. My son's travel team has always destroyed all-star teams when they enter tournaments.

Daughter:
100+ ABs and hitting .517
MVP of National Qualifying Tournament
10-1 in the Circle. (Pitching)
ERA just over 1.
Team played 38 games in 29 days and is 29-9.
Team has won 2 tournaments and top 4 of every tournament entered. (Most of these tournaments are 18 teams +)
All of this is good BUT team is now in turmoil. Our championship this past weekend was costly. We lost our 3rd baseman. Daughter was the winning pitcher but was injured hitting and can not play for a while. Rehab for D starts Monday. We have lost starting catcher. (Other reasons) WE PLAY STATE TOURNAMENT ASA - A NEXT WEEKEND! (BTW, kid plays hard but gets hurt a lot!)

STATE TOURNAMENT ASA - A NEXT WEEKEND!
Despite success at ASA states (qualified for nationals each year) my biggest memory of states is the effect 64 teams and temps in the 90's has on porta-potties by Sunday afternoon.

NOW, I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE, THAT'S FUNNY!
TG Coach, the funny thing is, we're going up to the state tournament and will be in a bracket with a bunch of teams we've already played from our area. Conincedence?

By the time it's over you need to beat all (or most, to qualify for nationals) of the good teams. No matter what your pool is, the same good teams always surface Sunday afternoon.

alright I'll bite,
My 7yr old played in Minors LL this year 9/10's He ended up 2nd in the league in hitting behind 1 10yr old on our team. We went 17-1 and the most impressive part is he did not strike out to a live pitcher all year!! We played a 10u machine pitch tourney outside of LL and the ball was high on him even when he was deep in the box, he struck out his 1st 5 at bats against the machine, but other then that some 80 or 90 at bats in 18 LL games, 3 tourneys, a few scrimmages against other 10u teams.
No k's vs live pitching all year, pitching ranged from the worst LL kid throwing maybe 25 to some good all star pitchers throwing mid 50's. He was hit 4 or 5 times also, once really hard in the back, knocked the wind out of him, his next at bat he had a nice hit to LC, His confidence at the plate is amazing. he likes the faster pitchers.
