1) Runners 1st and 2nd, outs don't matter. Batter hits ground ball to first baseman, who misplays ball and ball goes into foul territory. Second baseman runs to cover first base because there is still a play on the batter runner. First baseman's throw to the second baseman is well wide of first base, and rolls into the infield without the 2nd baseman being able to get a glove on the ball. Shortstop gloves the ball, and throws home, throwing out R2 who had rounded third and gone from 2nd to home.

Question: Because the second baseman called for the throw to first and the throw led to another runner being thrown out, does the second baseman get an assist on the play? Does the first baseman get an assist on the play?

2) Start of an inning. Leadoff hitter singles. Second hitter grounds to first baseman, who could have easily touched first for the out but throws to second base too late to retire R1, thus fielder's choice. Third batter in the inning lays down a sacrifice bunt, moving both runners over. Four batter hits a sacrifice fly, scoring the runner at 3rd. Fifth batter strikes out.

The run that scored in this inning scored due to all runners being safe on a fielder's choice. Is this an earned run against the pitcher or an unearned run?

3) A baseball team is losing by 4 runs, and batting in the top half of the 9 inning with one out when light failure occurs. The game becomes suspended. The team wins their next 2 games. They then finish off their suspended game, which they end up losing without tying the score or taking the lead. They then win 4 more games.

Does the team get credit for a 6 game winning streak or does the completion of the suspended game count as a loss in the middle of their victories? Does the loss count on the date the game was started, or on the date the game was finished?

Scenario 1: The first baseman would get an error (E3) allowing the batter to reach safely (the assumption on that play would be that an errorless play should go for the out at first and there'd be runners at second and third...the runner on second at the start of the play gets thrown out at home but the batter shouldn't have reached. The first baseman would also get an assist since he touched the ball in the sequence leading to the out...the second baseman would not get an assist since he never touched the ball.

Scenario 2: Fielder's Choice plays are not base hits, but they're not errors either. That's an earned run, no matter what we think SHOULD have happened.

Scenario 3: I believe the loss counts only when it is finalized, but someone can correct me on that if I'm wrong.

On #1, the shortstop's throw home is the start of a new play following the misplay. The error disconnects any fielding plays from the play leading to an out, so the first baseman would not get an assist.

On #3, suspended games are officially recorded as occurring on the date the game was begun.

Really Macker? I've seen games in which an incident error occurred where the game's broadcasters called all of the fielder's involved as having been credited with an assist. There must be a lot of mis-information about this point out there.

On #3...that's good to know...on that one I wasn't sure.

#1 - on how it was described, even though the 1b misplayed the grounder, he still had a chance to throw for the out at first, but threw wildly. Therefor, the batter reaches on a E3(throw). On this same throw, the runners try to advance extra bases, and one is thrown out. Macker is correct that a new play is started, because a fielder cannot get an assist on a bad play which causes a runner to attempt an advance.

How would that be scored in the PBP database?

ROE obviously for the batter...but...is it one line (ROE with the baserunner destinations noted and the assist noted...or is it two lines...the way it SHOULD be..."ROE, bases loaded, then Other Advance with the assist play"
