At the start of a Phillies v. Oakland A's game in Oakland last week, 2 old-time Philadelphia A's players were on the field, one of whom was Eddie Joost, who threw out the ball to start the game. Who was the other guy? (I believe that Sam Chapman lived in California and was still alive as of a few years ago, so I think it may have been him).

Sam Chapman died in 2006, I think. I know for sure he's died.

Yes, he's done died. One of the old timers was former A's shortstop and manager Ed Joost.

The other was Bill Renna, who played for Philly in '54. He is 83 years old.

I had interviewed both of them earlier this year and they both were really great interviews. I met Joost in person and I wish at 92 I could be in as good of shape as he is. He gets around really well. Renna was a good talk on the phone too, both have alot of great baseball stories to share.

Renna was also a Yankee who got a surprising number of ABs in '53.
