View Full Version : Elbow Soreness
Lately, after making a hard throw from the outfield, I've been having issues with my elbow shortly thereafter. I did a search on Google and all it comes up with is stuff for pitchers (primarily those throwing curveballs); however, I'm not a pitcher. I can go a whole game throwing it to the cut-off man with decent force (routine plays), but when after I try to gun someone down, my elbow flares up a few minutes later. What is causing this? Are my throwing mechanics completely screwed up (using too much elbow / forearm)? I've never heard anything pop and it usually stops hurting after a few hours (well after the game is over); hence why I think its something with my mechanics.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, I'm going to get a video tomorrow of me (thank heavens for a wife) throwing it from the outfield (CF) to 3b or home like its a game situation. So maybe if it is my mechanics, someone can break down my throwing and tell me where I'm messing up.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the document, but does this apply to all throwing or just pitchers? Because I'm sure as hell not a pitcher.

Post the video.
Also, were you taught to show the ball to CF/2B when you throw, to keep your fingers on top of the ball as long as possible, or to break your hands with your elbows?
Thanks for offer to help Chris. I'm still waiting to get a video because its been raining all day (bloody England), so I'll get one posted as soon as mother nature takes a break. Also, I have never really been taught "properly" how to throw a baseball; however, my throwing motion "feels good" when I'm actually in the process of throwing.
Thanks again.

I also took some BP today at the cages. In the middle of BP was when my elbow flared up on me. So I'm beginning to wonder whether its my throwing or hitting. I'll try and get a video at the cages next time I go.
Again, any help is greatly appreciated.

I would guess the problem is still your throwing. Ur elbow is not healed yet so it flared up in batting. When you throw do you pull your Throwing hand up and back and then launch? Try going down around and back.

Where is the pain? Inside or outside of your elbow?
There's nothing terribly obvious in your clip, although I do see a bit of a timing problem. Your PAS forearm isn't vertical when your GS foot lands, which can increase the load on the elbow (and the shoulder).
This could be due to your pulling back with your GS elbow a bit too soon. I prefer that you just bring the chest to the glove.
The pain feels like its more towards the outside. What exactly do you mean by my forearm being vertical when my foot lands? Do you have any images to kinda point out what you're talking about?
Thanks again.
