Funny that the bat didn't follow the path he drew.

I think it's a pretty good analysis.

Pinkman Baseball is one of Epsteins top instructors. They also have a very good Pitching program as well. They also had a couple kids drafted this year and have had for a few years in a row now.

I love this video. I need to have this video on my cellphone when I go to the cage. depending on how many swings i take at the batting center my technique deteriorates from the 2nd video to the 1st video.

Cally, have your adjusted your hitters to a more vertical body at contact more like the pro in the video vs. the rearward lean on the back foot in the second video? I know you've made some changes to Mike's program and I was wondering if that was one of them.
In all honestly, I don't think the kid looks like the pro at contact; his vertical aligment is shoulder, butt, upper calf versus the pro's of shoulder, hip, knee.

What software is he using to analyze the swing? I really like it.

Paul Nyman also does some good things with video analysis.

Yes, I'd also be interested in this as well if anyone knows.
One of the major adjustments he made to the hitter in the second example was a wider stance. That allowed the hitter to feel his weight stay back and achieve better balance. A good base, helps out greatly the ability for the upper body to work correctly.
A good improvement from the first example and I felt a good analysis.

So this wouldn't be a bad video for me and my son to look at to make the proper adjustment to his swing?

In general, yes. Doesn't give a lot in the way of how he arrived at teaching the hitter how to change his swing, but instead gave some end result observations.

So this wouldn't be a bad video for me and my son to look at to make the proper adjustment to his swing? The primary value of the clip is his proper emphasis on getting the bat in the same upward plane corresponding to the downward plane of the ball. But, he doesn't really tell you how to get there. And there are two significant issues I have with the final swing:
1. The kid is leaning back to the catcher and has it weight on his back foot. Little rotational force is generated from the back hip that way.
2. The kid's hands are even further in front of the plate in the second swing than in the first. Look at the pro-player's swing and you'll see better contact position -- with a straight line running from the elbow to the tip of the bat.
I think part of the problem is that the kid is not putting much energy into the swing. One reason that good hitters come up off their back foot at contact is that they've powered their bodies (particularly the back hip) forward into the firm front leg. Here, in the second "good" swing, the kids' front leg is stiff all the way from the beginning. Can't generate much lower body power that way. Look at clips of Pujols' lower body or Miguel Cabrera's (http://s95294420.onlinehome.us/userfiles/cabrera2.mov).

As someone with still a lot to learn about hitting mechanics I like the before/after videos side by side. But if you look at the before, when he makes contact the bat actually is on the same plane as the ball. The biggest difference I see is the position of the hands. The low follow through and turning the bat over early looks like what my son is doing. I'll have to show him this video so he can see the difference. I think one of my son's problems is his grip. He lines up his "knocking" knuckles with his big knuckles. We're going to do some batting practice with lining up the knocking knuckles. I'm a little reluctant to change anything right now during LL All-Stars since he's been hitting well, so we may wait until August to fiddle with the swing.

Ok, so if I understand this correctly, the tilt we are talking about is more a tilt over the plate, as opposed to tilt back towards the catcher? Is this correct. The tilt we are looking for is more over the plate then?

He is using JC video
absolutely horrible analysis by this guy....He is actually promoting that the lead arm get away from body during swing....Just like the cover of Epstein's book....Horrible instruction....
