If Rose could play infield, I'd be interested... but what sets him apart from Staub, Wynn, even Jones?
He's consistently very good. Another reason the bidding wasn't as high concerns his peak season of the next five...it's 1969 and expansion owners have little use for it. If his peak had been a few years down the line, he'd have gone for more right away.

If Rose could play infield, I'd be interested... but what sets him apart from Staub, Wynn, even Jones?
Staub is definately better over a 3 year haul. Wynn is better for 2 years, but that 3rd year is a killer. The only thing that sets Rose apart from most of the field is he's worthy of a 5 year deal.

Wynn's got a solid three out of four. And if you can't compete in 1972-3, you'll have a much harder time unloading Rose than you may want.

No market; once the bids for Cleon Jones passed $13 mill a year, I passed and realized that my 1969 and 1970 are shot entirely. Wilbur Wood and 1971 have been my hope in this entire franchise since I started drafting halfway through the 1961 draft (if you recall, I wasn't an original draftor, but picked up an abandoned team in the fourth or fifth round... Wood was my first pick). I have money; I just don't have the kind of money to subsist where Cleon Jones is a sixth of your payroll. Sleeper three year contracts are my method at the moment.

--Already 42 players bid on. In many ways I think this is the most interesting part of the whole process. You get to see bidding wars on some unlikely players. You get to hope your sleepers make it through. And the frantic bidding down the strech is the best 10 minutes or so of the offseason. We bid on all players this way the first season or two which was even more interesting, although the one at a time approach for the premium guys gives people a chance for a little more reflection - and takes most of the luck out of landing those players (the clock ran out before guys were ready to give up on players a few times).

I think I found the roster problem on my team. In the DB you have Lou Marone listed on the Shoeless roster but he was drafted at pick #60 by the Cloverleafs in the rookie draft. He should be on the Cloverleaf roster, leaving Shoeless with 30 players.

Incidentally, if Kyle and Craig are planning on keeping this updated let me know and I'll discontinue. I think it might get a bit confusing to have three people doing it. Whichever of us continues to do it, remember you will be updating and posting the final bid results Tuesday night.

Ummm, I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but I think the way Craig and Kyle entered their bids is a bit confusing. I actually had to go back and edit my update after Kyle posted his, because I thought it was simply an update and missed them (I edited them in afterwards). I'd prefer just posting the players the team is bidding on, same as we've always done. It makes it easier to see if they bid on a player I'm interested in without going through a list of 45 players, and it also makes it much easier to update the bids when I do it. I don't know how everyone else feels.

--I don't have a problem with multiple people updating. Two caveats though. I can't be responsible for errors in those updates. If there is a legit bid that gets missed in an unofficial update it would still be the winner when/if pointed out - up to 24 hours after the close of the market. So rely on those at your own risk. Lew's updates will be the official ones and if he misses something you need to get the correction in while the auction is in progress for the bid to count. Also you may not mix new bids in with updates. Those bids are two easy to miss and will NOT be counted. Make your bids in a separate post.
Thanks.

--One other note. You should be keeping a running total of your active bids. If they exceed your available cap space at any point your are technically in violation of cap rules, even though you may not expect to win them all. For example, the Knights now have 9 active bids for a total of 14M against our available cap space of 19.5M.
--You aren't likely to have the violation caught unless you end up winning too many bids, but the penalties for bidding over cap are significant. Better safe than sorry. And you never know when some division rival may be looking to trip you up:evil.

Al Kaline's the one I find really amusing. He had like an $11 million contract and is now earning top dollar again in this draft. Didn't WCF draft him earlier and didn't he have to buy out that contract?

--He drafted him, but didn't have to buy him out. As an original 1961 draftee Kaline was on a year to year deal. If WCF resigns him for less than 11M he comes out ahead. If anybody sign him for more than that then this market has really gone crazy.
