over 24 yrs ago my dad performed a surgery on a man who did not have money to pay for it. long story short..the man worked as a driver often driving ball players to and from yankee and shea. he would have different player sign different balls. he gave my dad this ball as a BIG THANK YOU. my dad not caring at all about baseball gave it to me in 1982-83.
it has been kept in a ball case and in a safety deposit box in NYC for the last 10+ yrs. over 10 years ago i showed it to a few people. who were big baseball collectors. THEY BUGGED OUT OVER IT THEN. but i never got a true estimate of VALUE. they could not say. ALL THEY were able to tell me is that they are all hall of fame players.
RECENTLY it came up in conversation and i am think about getting it authenticated. NOT TO SELL IT, YET.
without having the ball here with me i can tell you the autographs i remember being on the ball.
1 ted williams
2 Nolan Ryan
3 Willie Mays
4 mickey mantle

6-lefty ?
7-George Kell
8 - Spaughn

i am stuck without seeing the ball in awhile. i am currently in LA, CAlifornia area and the ball is in NYC. nextime i get to NYC i plan on bring it back with me to get authenticated. any recommendations as to who to bring it to. also what can i do to protect the ball. I dont think i should leave it with anyone to be appraised... i am not a sports fan or collector so any help would be GREAT.

5--Bob Feller
6--Lefty Grove (?)
8--Probably Warren Spahn
George Kell frequently signs through the mail so that one would not increase the price much. Also Feller and Spahn are frequent signers.

You're best way to get it authenticated is to send it off. As bad as that sounds with an item of this type, it will be the best. It would probably be expensive though. PSA/DNA would be the best and JSA might be secondary. PSA is very respectable and would greatly increase the value. As for trying to get this done in person, I would say find a hobby show around you when there is someone appraising.

If you get the ball authenticated it's worth some good money. The Mantle and Ted Williams signatures alone make this a $500 ball. The Lefty Grove auto is a nice touch. He's been dead for a while (mid 70's) and his auto adds a couple hundred more. Mays and Spahn who recently passed away are good signatures as well.
You say the ball has 17 signatures on it. You need to upload some photos on here and I'm sure we'll be able to identify the players especially if they're hall of famers.
Just going on the signatures that you can identify I'd value the ball at $800+. Of course that depends on authenticity. As for getting the ball authenticated try psa/dna or gai. Either one will do. If you want to sell the ball you might want to just give it to a reputable auction house like Robert Edward Auctions. They'll take care of authentication for you. I wouldn't worry about giving your ball to any of those companies they're very respected.
Store the ball in your baseball case in your sock drawer. Keep it out of sunlight and don't handle it without having it in your case. Hope that helps.

"Also Feller and Spahn are frequent signers."
Agreed about Bob Feller. But Warren Spahn passed away.
"Keep it out of sunlight and don't handle it without having it in your case."
Agreed. However, let me add one further precaution that I take regarding fading prevention: when you're not looking at it, put the ball holder in a small cardboard container. I had to do this because my room (which is where my signed baseballs are) gets a lot of sun. This has worked very nicely for me and the signatures still look as crisp as the day they were signed.
