When I was younger I used to just collect EVERYTHING - which was messy. Then I decided to create goals.

My current collecting goals:
* Complete a 1959 Topps set
* Find a Walter "Wally" Judnich signature

What are yours... maybe others here can help you out.

I've got a few goals....and I figured if I'm going to do it, I might as well make 'em big goals:

1. Autograph of every player on the '81 Dodgers WSC team.... (I'm down to needing just three....however, I don't know if I'll ever be able to track down Mark Bradley)

2. Working on an autographed set of 1981 Topps.

I know I'll probably never complete the '81 set....but it's fun working on it!

Who are you missing?

I'm just missing Mike Scioscia, Rick Monday and Mark Bradley....I haven't been real impressed with what's available on E-Bay for Monday and Scioscia....and like I said, I don't know if I'll ever track down a Mark Bradley auto!

My main collection goal is focusing on autographs of any player that has played for the Mets, preferably on a card or picture of them in a Mets uniform. Otherwise, I send out whatever cards I have around from when I collected as a kid.

Coachsmallhead-Send me a list of either what you have or what you need for the 1981 Topps set. I may have a few to add to your collection.

1 project is to get as many 53 Archive cards signed. As of today I have gotten 30 different Old Timers and am waiting on 12. I havn't done any TTM's that require $. So, there are probably another 12 or so that require donations.

2. This Project includes getting as many Mets and Yankees I can. Former, current and Minor League Players. I'm up to 37 Mets and 31 Yankess

3. This project is to get as many Local Players from Long Island as possible.

I'm tying to collect the 1972 Topps set. This was the first set I ever colleceted, but all my cards from 1972-74 got thrown out. At this point, I have about abiut 70% of the set. Most of the the cards I need are from the last two series.

I might have an extra Scioscia signed card. I'll double check in the a.m. or whenever I wake up.

My goals: To get as many minor leaguers ttm as possible. Those kids are just great at signing. So yeah, that's my goal.

My collecting goals: having fun and learning more about the game.

There's a lot of baseball card heritage and I think a lot of people forget that cards are representative of the players themselves and what they mean to this sport. It's easy to get caught up in the mix of all the wonderful things that this hobby provides. I will agree that this is probably the golden age of baseball card collecting because of the variety, supply, and technology. We no longer live in the era where you had to attend a ballgame or get a baseball card to see what your favorite player looks like.

Sidebar:
I went down to one of the local baseball card shops here and started talking to the owner about baseball. He had been selling and collecting cards for decades, which is neat, but he didn't know squat about the game. I was really surprised. I'm not saying that in order to enjoy baseball you have to watch every game and follow every player's move. I just couldn't believe that someone who has such a love for the game knew so little. Whether it's right, wrong, or indifferent I think that every now and then people need to step outside the box and take a good look at what this game does for all of us. What's really great about baseball is that there's so much history and much of it is documented in books, videos, and even on the back of baseball cards.

I knew a sports card dealer that was the same way. They were more worried about the latest Beckett listings rather than what was going on during the season. You would think that if someone is running a business based around sport(s) cards they would atleast follow it.

Back on topic, I just like to buy cards that I didn't/couldn't have when I was kid. I like to build/buy Topps sets from the 80s and I enjoy collecting Braves team sets from over the years.

I'm a collector, in general. I'm working on 1977 and 1979 Topps mostly, but I haven't put too much effort in deference to other things.

I have every Topps set from 1974 (my first year collecting) to the present. My long-term goal is to have each set from 1966 (my birth year) to the present. Right now I'm working on 1969 and 1973. I'm pretty close to complete sets of 1966, 1969, 1971, and 1973.

Do you have 1970? I completed one in the last year and found I had to get most of what I didn't have on eBay.

For the moment, my goals are to complete my player collections of Hensley Meulens, Bernardo Brito, Steve Howard, Dann Howitt and Tuffy Rhodes. Beyond that, just to keep collecting & trading as an after-work stress reliever.

To have a baseball card of every Cuban/Cuban American player who has played in the majors, and one of every Marlins player ever. Of course, it would be nice to have them all autographed. So far, I have:

88 cubans/7 autos
26 Cuban Americans/2 autos
145 Marlins/ 14 autos

My goals are actually not too terribly different from J.P's. However, replace "Marlins" with "Mets" and add "New York Giants," "Brooklyn Dodgers," Minor League stars, and National League stars of the 1950's-1960's. Why Cuban and Cuban American ballplayers, you ask? Well, my neighbor (originally from Pinar del Rio) is the only person whose had as much of an influence on me in terms of baseball as my Dad. Because Dad had to work during the days and commuted, while Al owned his own business, he'd go out and play catch with me, all the while telling me about the Winter League (and to a lesser extent the amateur leagues) he grew up following, the Cuban ballplayers that he himself had seen from the early 1960's up until today in the Majors, and enough anecdotes to fill up a book. He got back to following baseball IN CUBA for two reasons around 1993-1994. First was that Pinar del Rio had their own, pretty good team (Green Sox/Tabaqueros). The second was that he found out what "pirated satellite" was and could finally watch the games. He has a full bookcase full of taped games with the date of the game, teams that played, starting pitchers, and even little game notes.

I'm also a big time prospector, which is a result of the recent Bowman brand baseball cards. I was really disappointed after 2005 when I knew the MLBPA was going to institute the "rookie card rules," but then came 2006 Bowman. First pack I opened, I figured "must be all MLBPA rookie cards." I pulled two Chrome cards (Phillippe Valiquette and Kendry Morales), a Gold prospect card (Mark Reed), and three regular prospect cards (Alex Gordon, Wyatt Toregas, and Joe Bauserman), and I've been hooked on the new Bowman releases ever since.

I guess my goals are to find any fox cards i don't have (and can afford), especially 1977 Sertoma Stars.
and
Keep collecting White Sox cards.

Also Slowly working on 1955 Bowman. (the first packs I can remember opening) 162/320.
(have a some hOfs but no big stars.
but can't really afford too much).

Need one card for 1985 Topps (Pete Rose 600)

Might start in on 2004 Bowman Heritage (the take off on 55 Bowman).

Other than that keep a eye out for Sandberg Cards for my son, the cub fan.

I'm going through that "collect everything" messy phase like what Madhatter said, so my goal is to collect any and all cards that I can afford (low budget) and are a good deal.

If I was to look into the goals I have set, it might be to collect complete sets of cards from the late 80's and early 90's since they are at their lowest prices. I've got a little over 50% of sets equaling 25,000 cards, including a dozen complete base sets. I'm very messy :hyper:

While i collect Yankees from ALL years, old thru current, and Mets and other cards old and new with players that i like and photos that i like (usually great action shots), my number one goal was just reached a few weeks ago.

I have Yankee cards from early 1900's thru 2008, but i wanted to have 500 different Yankee cards older than 1960, and it took quite awhile, but i now have 511 from 1959 and older.

Not as easy as you might think, you cant do it with just basic things like Topps, Bowman, PlayBalls and Goudey. You gotta have oddball stuff, you need cigarette cards, Leafs, Batter Ups, Drakes, DanDee, Red Heart, Swell Sports Thrills, strip cards, Berk Ross, etc. It makes for an incredible interesting album, i have all these old cards in one album, and man, its great, i love it.
