3. What is the lowest ERA (not including 0.00) that anyone has ever had at any point in a season?

4. What is the highest ERA (not including infinity) that anyone has ever had at any point in a season?

I think I know the answer to #2. The others I don't know. Do you?

Well I'm sure that a lot of guys went 4-5 to start a season so it would be .800, but you may want to stick with some minimum total of plate appearances. Has anyone hit .500 through the first 100 at bats of a season?

For innings I suggest at least 30.

Three pitchers have ended a year at 189 (so your answers would have to be even more extreme than these)

Thanks for your answers. I know that Fernando Valenzuela has that beat though. His ERA was 0.21 after his 5th game in 1985, and it dipped a little lower in the early innings of his 6th game.

For #2, Doug Davis' .016 is the answer I had too.

Thanks for your answers. I know that Fernando Valenzuela has that beat though. His ERA was 0.21 after his 5th game in 1985, and it dipped a little lower in the early innings of his 6th game.

His first five games consisted of 42 innings. He pitched 2 more innings in his next start before allowing earned runs in the third inning, dropping his ERA to 0.20.

He did better than that in 1981 with 0.20 after his 5th game (45 innings.) He pitched 7 shutouts innings of his next start dropping his ERA to 0.17 before allowing an earned run in the next inning.
