Im a 2nd baseman on my highschool team. Ive already decided on a Rawlings Pro Preferred 11.25 inch glove, but i'm looking into different types of webs. Any suggestions on what types of webs work better for ground balls out in the field?

I am a middle infielder on my high school team two and i have an A200 with the "H" web, and I love it. But Rawlings calls theirs the "I" web, thats what I would recommend.

I personally love the H-Web from rawlings:

Or the Single Post web:

I play 3rd and short on my 2 teams, and i use an A2000 with an I web and a Rawlings Primo with a Modified-Trap-Eze web. I love both of them.

I know Biggio always preferred a "one-piece web" but those are mainly found on 11" gloves. A lot of 2Bman, nowadays, seem to be going to the "single-post web". The "I-web" is nice, but I always felt like I "lost" the ball in it (I'm an H-web guy, too), but many people like it.

Does the I-web stay tight or does it get loose over the course of the season?

Like with any glove, it will loosen. Now, some players prefer it to be loose and "netty" others prefer to keep it tight so the ball stays "shallow" in the glove. I always felt the ball got "deep" in it either way - but that's just me.

Well while were at it, whats your take on the modified trap for a infield position?

For some reason they seem to be "dieing out", but I'm not sure why, it's a nice design, I've always liked it. I know Edgar Renteria still uses one (11.5").

What are its pros and cons?

Well its very flexible and strong. It aslo makes it easier to squeeze and scoop balls in the infield. I can't really think of any cons though.

I've got two modified trap gloves, 11.5 and 11.75, from Akadema. Love both of them... until I got the modified T-web AFL-10 Funnel. By far the best glove I ever owned.

I went with this glove.

chd66-- why do you like the funnel, it sure looks different. any body else tried the funnel gloves?

The Web is white, so you cant pitch with this glove?

That web is gray.

The funnel felt like an extension of my hand, not a tool. I'm only coaching now but I feel the funnel allows a quicker transition. As for the shape, its not that different than most middle infielders' gloves. We tried to shape ours in a similar fashion 15-20 years ago. I wouldn't recommend it for pitching. I'd go with something a little bigger with a deeper pocket.

You can get that shape on any other glove. One of my teammates has a Rawlings Pro Pref and he flared out the thumb and pink and it looks exactly like that.

The cons are the leather windings will stretch more when it's broken in. You will have to adjust it much more often and condition to it more so than an "H" web(my second choice for infield at 3rd - I play 3rd and 2nd base and use solid web or trap when I am at 2nd). The advantage to a trap for me is the glove collapses more than an H web, and cushions the ball better, but the actual pocket isn't really larger overall when it comes to depth. Also, it is easier for me to shovel out of a trap glove than an H web. In fact, I can shovel a ball pretty far, with great velocity, and accurately with the trap web because it sort of acts like a tiny jai alai stick. I make less errors on balls hit very hard to me.
