Another vote to Peavy, although Webb is building a case for himself (that certainly hasnt been hurt by his 8-0 start this year!)

I'm interested to see if there's a surge of votes for Webb after his 9 for 9 tonight.

Webb is even nastier with that change he throws now. Out of all the good pitching in the NL West I hate it most when the Rockies have to face him.

Brandon Webb showed the best persisting during the last 2-3 years.
I'll give him 5 stars...

Webb - *****
Beckett - ***
Peavy - ***
Zambrano -**
Hernandez - *

What's about Maine, Matsuzaka, Hamels?

John Maine!? One full season (and that was just okay)? Better than Matsuzaka though, I'll give you that. Hamels hasn't proven enough yet, but he should be up there soon.

For the poll, I went with Webb by a hair over Peavy. After those two, I'd go with Oswalt. After that I'm not sure.

Kaz. No question. A winner for a losing team, an innings horse, and a league-leader in strikeouts, and he was effective despite horrendous Tampa defense behind him. With a much better D this year we should see a better Kaz.

Although I'm not sure that Kaz is really in the same generation as some of these others like Peavey and Sabbathia. Not unless the likes of Lester, Buchholz, Verlander, Jered Weaver, etc. are too.

Kazmir is great, but IMO, he doesn't belong up with Peavy and Webb. He's in the running for my 6th spot (after Webb, Peavy, and Oswalt).

What's about Maine, Matsuzaka, Hamels?

I'll just refer you back to the first post in the thread; all candidates must have at least 75 MLB starts, which Maine, Dice-K, and Hamels have not yet attained.

peavy should be #2

I don't understand why Josh Beckett has any votes at all. He got a vote for #1, 3 for #2 and he's up to like 4 now for #3. What in the world does this guy have going for him outside of post-season play? I guess John Smoltz was better than Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens, too, because he was lights out in the post-season? Give me a break!

Beckett is solid but shouldn't touch anywhere near the top 5, IMHO. I voted Peavy but I really feel he should be #2 and Oswalt #3.

Because he's done it a tad longer, I'm voting Oswalt here over Webb and Peavy.

Actually, Zambrano has more wins and a much higher ERA+ than Peavy...
