This would probably fit better under "History of the Game." I hadn't been there in a while, and I think for a lot of that time the site was down; it's good to see it again.

I like the Tigers uniform but it's mainly the road uniforms because of the orange on it. What I don't like about it is the navy blue color. Call be crazy but last time I checked Tigers have black on them.
Don't know who's idea it was to put navy instead of black. but I think the uniform would look much better if they had black not navy and also some orange on the home uniforms.
Mariners are one of my favorite uniforms too. but that's more of the color scheme and the logo then anything else. Love the Teal and dark blue.
Cubs are also on the list.
And of course the interlocking NY, no name on the back, navy blue and white, classic pinstripes uniform is the best.

Not.
All the post-Okkonen sets lack the alternates. So we're hardly seeing every uniform from every team. Plus, just looking at the Orioles, I can spot several incorrect details. This is a good starting point, but hardly the be-all and end-all.

Go to the eye doctor buddy. I have a closet full of Tigers sweatshirts, tshirts, hats, jerseys, polos and even a pair of pajama pants (lol) and the Tigers colors are Orange and Navy. Their hats are a very dark Navy (as is the trim on their home uni's) and the navy is only lightened a little bit for the road uni's.

Uh I said they had navy. I said actual Tigers (not the baseball team but the animal) have black on them there for I think the Tigers should have black NOT blue on their uniforms....

The hardback of 1991 and the updated and slightly corrected softcover of 1993 are both out of print, unfortunately. There's always eBay, Amazon's secondary market and Alibris if you really want it. I got the hardcover, too back then and it's a beauty.

I'm not going to lie, my two favorite uniforms are the Yankees' pinstripes (which, IMO, is by far the best baseball uniform ever designed) and the Red Sox's home jersey. Both of those teams have pretty nice away jerseys as well.
Outside of Boston and New York, I'd have to say my favorite jerseys are the Cardinals' home, Dodgers' home, and Giants' home. The Astros' pinstripes are pretty nice jerseys as well - I'm a fan of the black and red color combination, and I love pinstripes (they make a team look so much more strong and powerful).
(For the record, regardless of their jerseys, I still despise the Red Sox. ;))

covering in minute detail all of MLB's uniform evolution in the doubleknit polyester era. Its available in CD-Rom form for Adobe Reader (included) at this site:
http://www.mlbstyleguides.com/
It is updated frequently and also focuses on such aspects as team-specific number and letter fonts, commemorative patches, variations in tackletwill (the material that makes up the actual team logo graphics), and so much more...
It is a worthy supplement to the Uniforms of the 20th Century book.

I always liked the St. Louis Cards uni's the home uni the best.
The Yankees should try the old road uni with 'Yankees' on the shirt, it would be a nice change.

I always liked those too, and the 1921 pinstrped hat I have one, and always thought that the Yanks could have turn back the clock night with those and the plain pinstriped uniforms ruth wore.

Yup. Yanks, Dodgers, Tigers and I'll add the Red Sox, Cards and Giants as well. There's something to be said about these classic uniforms.

I agree on two counts (loving the pinstripes on uniforms - especially the Yanks) and hating the Sox :)
However, I disagree with you when you say that the pinstripes make the player look stronger and more powerful. If anything, it slims down the player. Ever notice that players who looked huge in their former club's uniform looked smaller when they came to the Yanks? A couple of examples are Sheff and Giambi (when he was still on roids). On the A's, Giambi looked massive. Not so much on the Yanks.
Still, the Yankee pinstripes and overall uniform is the very best, in my opinion. It's the classiest and has pretty much remained the same throughout the years, keeping with tradition, including no names on the back of the uniform.
I do think that all uniforms, including the Yanks, looked better in wool instead of today's polyester.

I guess the newer uniforms are an improvement over pitchforked "M" in the original. Can't say it's one of my favorites though.

I love how the wool uniforms LOOK too, that's why I really want a throwback jersey. But I would rather play in the polyester ones, I don't know how they played in those wool uniforms in the middle of summer.
I love the classic uniforms better too, Yanks, Cards, Dodgers, RedSox, Giants, Cubs ect.
I like how the Giants home uniforms are off white, it's a little touch that looks great.

Gotta say I love the Cardinals home jersey. No other uniform like it, birds on the bat. I like the uni's of the Yankees, Red Sox, Giants and Dodgers. I love teams that have pretty much stuck with the same kind of designs.
When I went to the Cardinals Winter Warm-Up this year, they had a cool thing on the evolution of the Cardinals logo. They also had a session on the evolution and history of the jersey but I missed it.
Funny thing about the birds on the bat design and the fans love for it...back in I think it was 1953 a very unpopular GM of the Cards took the birds on the bat off of the jersey. There was such an uproar from the fans that he changed it back a year later. Rumor has it after that he wanted to trade Stan Musial. Then the GM was fired. LOL
One thing I wish the Cards did as far as the jersey is on their road jersey instead of having it say Cardinals, have it say St. Louis. Back in the day, I believe it was the 30's, they did have it this way. Because if you look around the league, generally a team has their team name on their home uni's and their city name on their road uni's.
edit: The GM was Frank Lane and he was hired in 1955. In 1956 he took the birds on the bat logo off the uniform. In 1956 he traded Red Schoendiest.

I believe that it was the late Joe Falls, longtime columnist for The Detroit News, who said it best: The Tigers home uniform is the closest thing to formal wear found anywhere in sports.
And I agree. Brilliant simplicity. A timeless masterpiece.

That's why I think atleast the hats of the Tigers, WhitSox and Yankees will always be popular. The simple design on a black or dark blue cap is classic and timeless. Simplicity of those designs are great.

Most of you already know this, but there is a GREAT manufacturer of authentic uniforms.
http://www.ebbets.com/about_ebbets.aspx
At about 45, I was a 'man who had everything'...and for whom buying a gift was hard.
The one thing I didn't have was an authentic Seattle Rainiers jersey.
My dad got me one from these people.
It's MAGNIFICENT.
I highly recommend them.

Ebbetts Field Flannels are great, I got their fungo shirt to wear under my 1939Lou Gehrig jersey. My only problem is that now I can't find anyone to make replica pinstripe flannel pants to match it. :D
