Igawa gonna Start Tuesday?

Now that Rasner has successfully taken Hughes spot and done well I belive the Yankees will be bringing up Igawa to take Kennedy's spot. He has been pretty good in the minors 3-3, 3.86 ERA. 40 K in 39.2 IP and only 12 walks.

Can Igawa deliver if the Yankees bring him up. He has struggled at the major league level for the Yanks 2-3 6.25 ERA, 37 BB in 67 IP. What will we see from him?

I don't have any expectations for Igawa, but I doubt he'll be as bad as Hughes and Kennedy have been, but that's not saying much. It doesn't look like he'll pitch Tuesday though as it appears the team will skip that turn through the rotation with the offday, so Igawa would most likely pitch on Saturday against the Tigers. He might have a AAA start before then though, so it will be interesting to see what the team does if Igawa gets shelled. He started off strong at Scranton, but he hasn't been as good lately.

EDIT: Correction, Igawa started today at Scanton, and wasn't that great. 7 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 8 K, 4 BB. He can definitely strike people out, but beyond that it's a crapshoot. Given his recent performances at Scranton, at best, I'd expect only a slight improvement over his performances last year in the Majors.

It's tough to say. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he fails to get past the 3rd inning... but at the same time I'm really hoping that this additional opportunity is the one that he takes full advantages off and finally comes thru for the Yankees. :dance

If he can throw 5-6 innings, avoid the big inning -- almost always begun by issuing a walk, or two -- I'll be happy. He is not pitching anywhere near his potential, and I think some of it is frustration -- the hitters here are not going after some of the stuff that they did in Japan, in part because of the strike zone difference. He's making it worse by being stubborn as hell. I wonder if he actually studies hitters? He's just a whole different mental set -- not mention skill set -- from Dice-K.

Yes I agree. Well Matsuzaka don't forget is really a far more advanced and all around more skilled pitcher.

Igawa just has to be aggressive and go after the hitters more and don't be afraid to throw a strike. Looking forward to this match up. I hope the Yanks rough up Kenny tonight!:cap:

There's no defending a bad performance and Igawa just didn't get it done. To be fair, he wasn't helped by four errors at thirdbase that could have gotten him out of trouble, but even so it was very disappointing.

The Tigers were plastering the ball from the beginning of the game--long before Jeter and Betemit made things more complicated.

The outcome for Igawa was highly predictable, what I would like to see is the offense be productive for more than 1 day in a row.

It doesn't really matter what the offense does if Igawa pitches like he did last night. He's lucky he only gave up as many runs as he did. Every pitch is the same, same spot and speed.. send this guy to A ball.

We need to buy out some of his contract and/or trade him for an overpriced player. 46 million over 5 years for this guy is terrible.
