--With expansion in the upcoming 1969 season the CKL will be splitting into 2 leagues. Please vote for however many of the listed options are acceptable to you. The intent of this poll is not just to find the most popular choice (as the winner may not even get a majority if limited to 2 choices), but to eliminate unpopular choices. We can't make everyone happy, but we'll at least try and avoid making anyone particularly unhappy:). Voting is limited to CKL owners (including our new expansion owners).

Robinson and Ruth or Robinson and Doby works for me. Ruth and Doby not so much.

Well, I see this hasn't helped at all yet, Mark (everyone had four votes as of mine). My preference would be Robinson and Doby, to stay with the theme of integrators. Second choice would be Robinson and Ruth, to stay with a theme albeit a different one of game changing players.

==A slight lead to Robinson and Ruth (5 to 4 from the other 3) with 6 of 16 owners having shared their opinion.

Veeck would be my last choice and he's tied with Robinson/Ruth...

In all honesty, I voted for all five but let me say that I would only support Veeck if the other was Rickey, to keep the owner theme. I suppose Veeck/Doby would work as well, since Veeck is the one who brought Doby up to the Indians. My top choices would still be Robinson/Ruth or Doby/Robinson.

--Since a tie seems more likley than not I think the comments posted here are going to be the best way to break it. If the poll does not resolve the issue (and now its a 3 way tie with another 1 behind) then I'll tally up the written comments. Please list the 5 candidates in order of preference in a post here and I'll use that (votes counted 5 for 1, 4 for 2, etc) as the tie breaker). My preference;
1) Branch Rickey
2) Bill Veeck
3) Jackie Robinson
4) Larry Doby
5) Babe Ruth

Babe Ruth
Jackie Robinson
Appreciate the vote. :D
But are you actually in this league?

To clarify better, I prefer the following combinations:
1) Robinson-Ruth
2) Robinson-Doby
3) Robinson-Rickey
4) Rickey-Veeck
5) Doby-Veeck
I would prefer the first two to the rest by a pretty significant amount.

--I edited the poll to remove the votes by our guest contributor. The combinations in like best;
1) Rickey/Robinson
2) Rickey/Veeck
3) Robinson/Doby
4) Robinson/Ruth
--Robinson works in any combination. Doby and Ruth only work for me in combination with Robinson. Rickey works with Robinson or Veeck (as pioneers of integration or as 2 noteworthy executives). Doby only works with Robinson. One thin I didn't really consider until just now is that we are giving these names in 1969. It would be very risky to name a league after a living person who could come back to haunt you with their behavior. Of course in hindd sight we know none of our candidates are going to create such a problem for us.

Since there appears to be no real clear-cut "winners" in the original or the new rankings, and because there seems to be considerable differences in our choices, why don't you just pick the division names? Call it a commish decision "in the best interest of the league" or something along those lines.
Maybe I'm mis-interpreting the importance being placed on naming the divisions, but does it really matter what combination is chosen? I'd venture to say no one will be too upset if their favorite combo isn't picked. If this is just a filler drill while we wait for the draft(s) to get closer, press ahead...if not, make a decision and let's move to the next order of business.

But geez, Shoeless, we LOVE filler drills!:laugh:nod: For the record, my top choice would be Robinson/Ruth, then Robinson/Doby.
At any rate, I tend to agree with Joe. Mark, you originally had the brainstorm that led to the CKL and many pleasant hours for those of us who have been with you from the beginning, and I hope some pleasant times for our more recent owners as well. Since this is not a decision that will in any way impact a pennant race, batter, pitcher or anything else, go ahead and pick the ones you like.

I'd like to ask if I could vote, seeing as I'm not a current owner in the league...

Robinson - Ruth seems like a cliche to me. I'd prefer to stay with the baseball executive/contributor theme.

This was the process behind my thinking.

2.Rickey
3.Doby
4.Ruth
5.Veeck

Jackie Robinson and Babe Ruth both received a majority of the votes, while the other three candidates did not. They will be our new league names. Thanks to those who contributed to the decision.
