Trip to Miami

I'll be in Tampa for the month of May and I am going to try to swing a trip down to Miami to catch a game. I plan on taking the Amtrak down and then it looks like a cab to the park. I have a few questions for those in Miami.

Is there any area near the ballpark I should avoid getting a hotel in? I plan on just finding a Holiday Inn or some similar type of hotel to spend 1 night before I train it back to Tampa.

Any tips or suggestions food wise? I would love to try some Cuban or something different that I can't find here in Texas. Suggestions?
