I've been using this machine with my 8 yr old as well as with his 8U little league team to help reduce lunging. That seems to be the most notable flaw in most swings I see at this age. Everyone gets over their front foot and chops down at the ball. The HBH seemed to groove my sons swing pretty well last year and he showed progress, though at times he still gets too forward and sweeps the bat out front instead of staying back and in the correct swing path.

What other drills/techniques are good to keep kids back and find the correct swing path. It doesn't do too much good to explain everything to kids this age. I just need some drills to get them practicing a more efficient swing.

teach the child what a stide is, than teach them how to swing without moving there head after the stride.

you need to get the stay back hitting tee

if not get someone to bend you some rebarb and put some padding on it and a regular batting tee

BTW, we use the HBH with wiffleballs (aluminum bat, of course). We hit the ball going up, so that there is only a brief pause after the front foot comes down.
