hitting coach referrals

My son is a short (5'1'), skinny (91 lbs) 13 year old. His past history is mostly a singles, doubles hitter - not a lot of power, but pretty good contact, above average bunter, fast on the bases.

He is moving up to a -3 bat this year as mandated by our local middle school rules and he is struggling a bit with the change, most notably with bat speed/hip rotation. Having a slightly open stance has helped, but I'm afraid this is just covering up some other more basic issues.

Unfortunately, I'm about tapped out on my coaching abilities and I'm thinking about sending him to a hitting coach. Any suggestions on how to find a good coach? Also, any recommendations on a coach in the Detroit/Flint, MI area would be helpful.

There's nothing more powerful than a father/son team learning together. I would recommend Steve's material and go through it with your son.

Having worked with Steve, I second Jake's advice. As far as -3 bats go, my son (not much bigger than yours and nearly 15yo) uses a Vexxum. He used it when he was barely 13 and about the size of your son. The balance seems to make it a little easier to swing than other -3's. At least. that's his take.
