Ok one live swing at a strike and 1 dry swing. Hopefully can get a little better idea of what needs done. Thanks and I will pitch harder and have more camera room for next time

The video is good.
Looks like the bat is too heavy for him. The uptick at the end of his swing could be due to the heavy bat.

Needs better rotation, posture and connection. Let him hit or do a rebuild.

i wondered that. I think i got some swings on my other camera with the lighter bat...
His practice swings he gets really good rotation. 180 degrees of it and seems like good hip and shoulder separation. Also, his practice swings seem like he stays connected pretty good. I will post a couple of these after i edit them for lengthThe video is good.

Might be a good place to start. If he can demonstrate a good swing when not under the pressure of a thrown ball then developing that ability through several steps along the way to live pitching can be a quicker path than the complete rebuild these swings would suggest.

i posted practice swings. Do they look closer? The only live swing i thought looked pretty good was the low ball swing. At least i like how he tilted rather than bent his knees to hit it.
It is just now getting warm enough to go outside so it is time to get things as good as possible. Pretty much have 2 weeks to get ready and we will go outside every single day it is nice enoughMight be a good place to start. Maybe we'll see something different if one of the video wizards gives us something we can frame by frame.

He starts with his hands close to his head. When he rotates it looks like he is slapping at the ball or "casting."

i wish the video wizards would post a tutorial on it. I would gladly do it myself if i knew how.
I will look at his hands location compared to his head. Maybe he can start there and just needs to load back a little more. Main thing to be concerned with is where they are at launch?? Is that correct

He is dropping his back shoulder. It should be more level with respect to his torso.

lol! i was winded from setting the camera on a bucket and sprinting to the mound haha. Plus i had just gotten done lifting weights.
Can you comment on swing and how to save swings in slow motion with
Windows media player or quicktime pro?The pitcher sucks, that's for sure......

Boy.... I'm seeing a bunch I would change. Disconnection, swing plane, turn, etc... If he were mine I would start at the beginning starting with tilt and turn drills -> separation/stride drills -> rotation/connection drills -> etc..
He shows some good athleticism and his lower body seems to be ok.

yeah it is weird b/c his swing was better last year. last year his main thing was bat drag..It is early but not sure where to start. How much of the disconnection is due to swinging at bad pitches?
The one low pitch it seemed like he was connected well. Most of my pitches stunk. Unfortunately the camera ran out of room so those 7 swings are the only ones that got filmed.
I really see his hands turning with the shoulders. How does his dry swing look to you? Boy.... I'm seeing a bunch I would change. Disconnection, swing plane, turn, etc... Get to a point where you can pitch to him with consistancy. Shorten up and do front toss with a net. If that doesn't work go to side toss. If that doesn't work use a hitting stick. Whatever is causing him to swing like this I would stop.

yeah i need a L screen to stand any closer. You can barely hear it but he hit me with a linedrive in the clips posted...
I really am not sure what the deal is. What stinks is after this tape and we got on our next set of balls he started cranking the ball... I will get more video as we can finally get outside more. The batting cage at the college just went up so hopefully can get in thereGet to a point where you can pitch to him with consistancy. Shorten up and do front toss with a net. Hawk,
You mentioned that you made the video clip in QT Pro. You should be able to convert that to an mp4 format using the File/Export menu. Those are compressed, so they're not real big, but people can still usually see enough detail.
Once you have an mp4, do you have some personal webspace that came with your email account? Free accounts like yahoo, msn, etc. don't usually provide that, but paid accounts like Cox, Comcast, etc. usually do. If so, you can upload the mp4 file to your webspace, then insert a link to it here.
Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss more.

these are live swings. He swung at every pitch. SO you can see his swing on high and low pitches
I see he is still wrapping his bat some. I like how he titled on the low pitch
all suggestion and criticism are welcome
Also, i uploaded to photbucket. Is youtube better? What is best way to save video for you experts to look at? I used quicktime pro
I would like to use the most convenient format for you guys. thanks

He needs to hold on to the bat with both hands and get some extension..seems like he really cuts off his swing.

Youtube is better because you can download clips using Alive Youtube converter.

In batting practice put more on your throws. Its easier to hit, and more representitive of what type of hack he will take in a game.

I can't do frame by frame but I was able to capture the first three swings post contact:

thanks jesse and everyone else
Yes I needed to throw harder. Unfortunately i ran out of camera space and that is why just the first 7 pitches are shown. I threw harder and harder
Also, i think some of the problems are the pitches he swung at. I am going to edit out those high pitches and leave the one strike i threw..
i thought i had more room on my camera. The screen broke so i cant see when something gets deleted or not. I thought i had deleted everything. Obviously i didnt

i have iowa telecom so would have to check... Stupid question but what is advantage of hosting a link and posting link to photobucket or youtube?Hawk,

Not a stupid question at all. :) The advantage is that you can post whatever video format you want instead of their proprietary ones - which require conversion for people to see frame by frame.
But unlike youtube and photobucket, your webspace is limited. So when you run out of space and delete old files, you create orphaned links in old threads. What I mean is, someone is reading a thread from 6 months ago, and you've since deleted those files to make room for newer.
So what I'm saying is, if you want your images/videos to stay out in threads infinitely, you can use youtube and PB. But in the short term, for current interaction w/ other posters, something we can step through frame by frame in QuickTime is much easier and more productive.
