The Phillies have a huge advantage at 1st base and left field and of course 2nd base. The Mets have a huge advantage at 3rd base. There are about the same at SS and C and CF and RF. Johann is the best SP in all of baseball, John Maine is solid, Oliver Perez is ok, Pedro is old. The bullpen has better middle relief then last year which means Billy Wagner won't be overworked as he was last year. Look for the old Billy.
The Phils have 2 #1 SP in Myers and Hamels. The others and below average. Our motto will be Cole and Brett and 3 days to fret. The bullpen will have better middle guys also and Lidge will match Billy in the closer spot.
Another note of interest, don't count out the Braves in what couls be Bobby Cox last year.

He makes the claim on the basis of future seeing. Haven't we covered this topic already, and didn't we conclude that the Mets are a better team?

No offense to Victorino, but I'll take Beltran over him any day of the week. Beltran is a 5 tool star who is one of the best in the biz. I would also take Alou over Burrell despite Alou's age and injury problems. Alou can get hot and carry a team for a week. You never know what you will get with Burrell.

Myers has never proven himself as a number #1, IMO. If he did, do you think he would have been moved the closer role last year, despite all the injuries to the starting staff ? Hamels is the best bet, but why do I have an inkling that he will get injured this year? As for the closer, maybe in 2005 Lidge matched Wagner, but since Pujol's bomb and subsequent injuries, Lidge hasn't been the same. Also, don't forget Lidge lost the closer job in Houston last year.

I will agree about Atlanta. They are a sleeper team and I believe they will finish ahead of the Phils in 2nd place. I say the Mets win the East by about 7 or 8 games.

I'm the only one permitted to make such claims.

If we didn't, I second.

Motion passed.

Im really sick of hearing about all of these Phillies vs. Mets type posts. Both teams are great and will put up a great fight for the NL East, nuff said.
