Some of them I tried last year and never gotten anything back. (I wish that was a list of minor leaguers who signed)

Ok, thanks. I'm going to try a bunch of them after spring training is over. But some of their cards can get pricey. One dealer wanted $8 for an Evan Longoria card a couple monthes ago. I think he will be very good, but he's still unproven and not worth that much for just one card (I was able to get another one for $1 a couple monthes later).

Not sure what you call this, but I got an e-mail from Bob Shirley. I sent out three card blowups for him to sign and asked him questions about the '74 IBAF World Cup played here in St. Pete (sent 2/26). Shirley e-mailed me back; telling me he is sending out the photos and he answered my questions about playing in the '74 Cup. Great guy. He didn't know the US won it last November and thought it was a one-shot deal back in '74.

When Rapp became the cards manager before the '77, he instituted a strict no-facial hair policy. You may recall there was a closer on that team called Hrabosky. Let's just say that Rapp and Hrabosky weren't exactly on each other's Xmas card list and that Rapp became universally hated. He also referred to Ted Simmons as a "loser." Rapp was forced to rescing his policy but still got canned. Even now a lot of his former players have nothing good to say about him.

2) I'm sending out Curtis Granderson, Mariano Rivera (who I've been told does sign regularly) and Brant Rustich tomorrow or the day after. My friend who works at another card shop recently had a TTM success with Brian Schneider, and I thought it would be nice to try and get him. But is what my friend got an aberration or the norm? I've also heard Matt Wise is another guy that signs TTM (my friend had two successes with him in '05 and '06), but does he still sign?

I received two in today: Jack O'Connor c/o home sent on August 26, 2006 (that's not a typo)

And, probably my favorite return this year, Cooper Brannan c/o Padres ST in about 2 weeks.

Here's why I love the hobby: I had written Cooper Brannan last season, because I was intrigued by his story. He was in the US Marine Corps and while deployed to Iraq, he had a flash grenade go off in his hand. As a result, he lost one of fingers after the surgeons were able to attach the other two. He met Padres CEO Sandy Alderson, who signed Brannan to a Minor League contract. When I wrote Brannan last year, he was kind enough to sign the photos I sent and also included a signed card with a nice letter thanking me for my work with veterans. This Spring, I sent him some cards (thanks kearns643) and some photos that I photo shopped (thanks duckydps), which he signed and he wrote a great letter talking about his off-season and his baseball career. He is truly an outstanding young man, who has won a fan for life.

If anyone has extra cards of him, I would be willing to work out a trade for those cards.

I think the gloss of the card made the ink "bubble" like that. I rub my glossy cards down with Gold Bond powder to take the gloss off, and it help. I got a lot of cards like that before I started doing that, and unfortunately, many of them on players who don't sign TTM anymore (Melky Cabrera, Felix Hernandez). If you removed the gloss from the card and it still did that, well, I don't know what to tell you.

There's really no telling. I sent Francona his 2008 Topps cards to sign and instead he sent me his 1986 card signed. Hopefully you should get the return soon. Either way I'm satisfied. Not sure if Dustin will sign because I haven't heard of anyone getting anything back from him.

One of my biggest TTM days in a long time, with FIVE successes.

My joy is tempered somewhat by the fact that someone at the postal service saw fit to soak much of my mail today with coffee, let them dry, then deliver them to me. Several of my TTM envelopes, plus a few bills and random junk mail got this treatment.

Yamaico Navarro - 1/1 c/o Red Sox ST in 7 days. Sig is fine, but upper left corner of card is coffee soaked. Doesn't look SO bad dried, but I'll probably try for him again during the season. This card is my proof that this wasn't a "quick spill".

Alexi Casilla - 2/2 c/o Twins ST in 5 weeks. One card has a touch of coffee on one edge, but otherwise they're fine.

JJ Putz - 2/2 c/o Mariners ST in 9 days. Coffee free, and great sigs!

Joe Smith - 1/1 c/o Mets ST in 9 days. Coffee free, and nice sigs!

Carlos Fernandez - 4/2 c/o Red Sox ST in 7 days. Cards are coffee free, but he signed both index cards too, and they are coffee stained (but saved the cards with their sacrifice).

Judging by the condition of the envelopes, and yesterday's light mail day, my thought is that the Putz and Smith cards came today, and the others would have come yesterday had someone not given them a taste of their Dunkin Donuts and then dried them overnight.

Still a great day, but that's the last time the mailman gets a Dunkin Donuts gift card from me for Christmas! Next year, something non-spillable!

I sent him an OMLB, and I have a hunch the he sent back a different signed OMLB. For one, her didn't use the blue pen that I included since the ball was signed in black, and the ball doesn't look quite as clean and new as the one I sent. It didn't have the moist, spongy feel that new leather has on a baseball. I'm guessing he just has a bunch of signed balls sitting around and send then to people who send him balls. Any time I have sent a card from him, it has been returned saying he is too busy serving his constituancy to sign.
