View Full Version : Miller probably will retire
Miller probably will retire - Brewers Blog (http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/01/25/miller-probably-will-retire.aspx)
I talked on the telephone today with catcher Damian Miller, the La Crosse native who played the past three seasons for the Brewers. Miller has not signed with another team and said he is leaning toward retirement at this point.
Miller, 38, wants to stay close to home to be with his family more and turned down offers from teams far away. He hoped the Brewers would invite him back for 2008 but the club signed free agent Jason Kendall to be the No. 1 catcher and will let Eric Munson, Mike Rivera and Vinny Rottino battle for the backup job.
Damian was a Good hard working Player That I belive gave the Brewers all he had and give the fans alot and we will always remenber the Big Game Winning Home Run he had on La Crosse Day at the Ballpark and if indeed he feels it is time to hang it up then that is the Best thing for him and I wish him the best of luck in his retirement with a Thank You for all he has done for the Brewers and It's fans.
A Quote from Al's Ramblings (http://albethke.blogspot.com/)
Tom H spoke to Damian Miller and reports Damian has turned down work and may retire.
It's always sad when a player wants to play for a certain team and they have to tell him they don't feel he's worth it anymore. It's a shame the Twins have a pair of solid backstops as well, as you'd think that would interest him.
It makes it sound that the Brewers where more ready to move on and where ready to give Rivera and Rottino a chance and yeah that may be true although it is a shame it has to come to that but then again That's life and that is a sign that better days are ahead for the Brewers.
Right Field Bleachers: It's Miller's Time (to go) (http://www.rightfieldbleachers.com/2008/01/its-millers-time-to-go.html)
It looks as if former Brewer backstop Damian Miller will be hanging it up after a long tenure as a big leaguer.
According to Rotoworld.com and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Miller, 38, is leaning toward retirement after the Brewers opted not to resign him. I've heard rumblings of him landing a backup job in Pittsburgh among other possibile destinations but it now looks as if his career will come to an end.

If it is indeed the end, I'd like to wish him all the best in retirement and thank him for his hard work and class he's exhibited since becoming a brewer.

Got to agree with all the above posts. Miller hustled his buns off and played hurt when necessary, and gave the Brew Crew 130% of whatever he had to contribute.
If he decides to hang it up, my thanks for his service!
Right Field Bleachers: Fan Favorite Likely to Call it Quits (http://www.rightfieldbleachers.com/2008/01/fan-favorite-likely-to-call-it-quits.html)
In a sad chapter of this Brewers offseason, an article on Tom Haudricourt's blog confirms what many Brewer fans have dreaded. Milwaukee fan favorite and all-around class act Jeff Cirillo met with Brewers GM Doug Melvin regarding a potentially vacant roster spot. Melvin reportedly told Cirillo there was no spot for him on the 2008 roster.
Cirillo, 38, said he'd only leave his family in the Seattle area to play for the Brewers. Without that option, it looks as if retirement is soon to follow.
It looks like another local Player calling it quits becouse the Brewers have grown beyound them. And just like Miller I wish Jeff the Best of luck in his retirement.
