The following players are statistically similar to Lou Boudreau and are not in the Hall of Fame:

Jason Kendall
Larry Doyle

None of them. To me, the only one who can be in the same sentence with "Hall of Famer" and not be laughed at is Edgar Renteria, but he's not there.

Just like Sam said, Renteria. He still has some good seasons left in him with his bat and glove. In my opinion though, he will come up short

The only one of that group who has an HoF case at this time is Larry Doyle. His WARP3, Win Shares, and RCAA all exceed Renteria's. Doyle is usually considered a viable marginal candidate for the HoF. If Renteria retired today he would not be accorded that status. However, Renteria may play 5-10 more seasons and things do change.

--Renteria's defense has already declined to the point where he is below average. If he holds a regular job 5 more years I'd be really surprised. OTOH Royce Clayton managed to keep more or less regular status into his late 30s so I guess Renteria could too. If he is around 10 years he does alot of bouncing around as a utility man and probably hurts his (already very slim) Hall of Fame chances more than he helps them. I suppose he could get a bump if he has a good season and helps the Tigers to a championship though - and that is not an unlikely thing to see happen this year.
