The Cubs have signed former
White Sox reliever Shingo
Takatsu to a one-year minorleague
contract that includes an
invitation to spring training. The
signing was announced today.
The side-arming Takatsu, 39,
signed with the Sox in 2004 and
saved 19 games that season,
then had eight more saves during
the 2005 championship season
before being released Aug. 1.
Maybe this guy can be a great addition for Fukudome.

This has to be a move just to give Fukudome someone to talk to.

Not such a bad idea really, considering Fukodome is going to be such a big part of any success they're going to have this season.

I know. I wasn't knocking the move, just stating a "fact."

Takatsu was 0-5 last year with 13 saves, and threw just 23 1/3 IP last year in the Japanese League giving up 32 H, 16 ER, 7 BB, and 15 K, 6.17 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, .320 BAA. I expect nothing from him other than giving Fukudome someone to talk to in Spring Training.

Oh I know. I was just stating it was a good idea to have someone around who spoke his language to make him feel comfortable.

He had that one great year with the White Sox but has been getting rocked no matter where he's played since then. I'm in the group thinking he was brought in to be someone Fukudome can talk to.

Okay, I'm pulling this thread back from the dead but...

What ever happened to this guy? I remember us signing him, but haven't heard a word about him since.

He was released in March. Barely mentioned in the link below.
