Box after box of 1952 Topps. Try not to drool on your keyboard. :)
Only 5 cents per pack. Now worth $5,000+ per pack.

Honestly, if I had a time machine, 1952 would be one of the first years I would go to. And, yes, I have thought about that before this thread.

I wouldn't even mind going back a scant 6-7 years to monopolize all of Pujols Bowman chrome rookies :applaud:

I love you Captain, because you just made me feel less weird! I've thought about the same thing a few times myself. If I can ever get that time travel machine in the shed to work properly, I'll be sure to PM you.

I'd settle for going back in time just to OPEN some 1952 packs.

Yup - I used to daydream about this all the time when I was a kid.
The stories my parents used to tell me about what they used to do with cards when they were kids... growing up in New England in the 50's, they would only keep the Red Sox cards. They would use the others to make noise between the spokes of their bikes... ouch.

Sure, butterfly effect and all, but wasn't there an interview recently with one of the card designers of Topps saying that the 1952 cards sold so poorly that they ended up dumping cases of them into the ocean (a la Atari & the ET game in the landfill)? Who wouldn't want to be there to offer to take all that "garbage" off their hands?

The first series sold very well. By the time they got to the last series, nobody wanted them, partly because it was football season by then. They were clogging up the warehouse, so 300-500 cases of the high numbers were dumped into the Atlantic in 1960 or so.
Here's a good article about it...
