I obtained this signed baseball from an estate sale. I cannot tell who's signature it is though. It looks like an old ball, possibly even game used, considering the clenliness of it... Or lack there of.

Wow...it is going to be hard to identify that.

Well, hopefully someone will be able to figure it out.

I had thought it was Phil Rizzuto at first because it was somewhat like a signature I found of his online, but after looking further, it really didn't look like the bulk of his sigs found online. So I don't think it was him.

If anyone can figure it out, I would greatly appreciate the effort. :cap:

At least it's distinctive. You gotta pray it a major leaguer, though.

The last name looks like a "L".
When you bought it, the seller didn't know who the sig belonged to either? How much did you pay for it?

The owner of the estate had died. The estate items were being sold off in blind box lots. I paid next to nothing for it considering the other items I ended up with in the lot I purchased.

I'm hoping that someone can figure this out though. Even if it's not worth much, I would like to know who it is.

It seems to me that the first letter of the last name is an R, and the last letter seems to me like it could maybe be a fancy Y.

Here is another pic of the autograph. I used Photoshop to make the signature stand out more. Maybe it will help.

Also.... Here is the autograph of Phil Rizzuto that I had found on Google that I thought looked similar at first.

Thanks again for the help in figuring this out. :cap:

Very well could be Rizzuto- Some signatures change over time. It could also be someone pretending to be Rizutto. I know one thing- I've been a serious collector for over 20 years and I have not seen anything like the one you displayed. Definately one of a kind.

Is there anyone that you could recommend who I can take it to to be possibly verified? I almost want to think it's a Rizzuto because of the other example I posted. The last letters look so similar. I dunno though. The ball is definitely old. I would think that whosever signature it is, would be legit.

Still hoping to figure this out. Please post if you have a clue as to who this could be.

Thank you all. :-)

Looks like the last name could be "Richards" or "Richardson"

Steiner Sports should be able to help you. But be prepared to pay a nice penny for them to look at it.

I don't think anyone with a slow connection is going to be able to help you out. Your pics are over 4 megabytes. :nosleep:

That last letter of the last name almost looks like an uppercase G.

Could you tell us where the estate sale was? Just a general location, that might help to narrow it down...or not. :p

What else was in the lot - any other baseball related items?

The estate sale was in Fort Myers, FL. I also got a briefcase in the lot which still had some airline receipts in it. It looks like the person travelled back and forth to PA at least once a year.

That's definitely it. :gt

That is definitely one of the names I should have thought of because Greenwell was from SW Florida. They even have a Mike Greenwell Fun Park not too far from me.

Well, it looks like I'm not going to retire off of it, but it's very cool that you guys helped me figure it out.

Thank you so much for all your help. You guys are great. :cap:

Sorry it couldn't have been a better autograph, but at least you know who it is now.

It probably is Mike Greenwell, but when I first saw it I thought it looked like Ross Grimsley's signature. Here is one example: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/ross_grimsley_autograph.jpg The one I have (no pic available, sorry) looks even more like it.
