Well, it's December 31st, and the mail has already arrived here (no TTMs today), so I figured I'd take a look at my spreadsheet to see how 2007 went for me.

Here's what I found:

Total Sent - 345
Total Successes - 145
Total Failures - 28
Total RTS - 12
Total Return requesting payment/donation - 7
Success Rate as of 12/31 - 42%

Not a bad success rate right now, especially since I sent out 32 of those 345 requests in December, and another 24 in November.

A bit more on the breakdown:

Total sent to home address - 156
Success Rate - 41%
Total sent c/o team/ST/etc - 189
Success Rate - 42.8%

Total postage costs - ~$140 (not bad for a great hobby for a whole year)

Pretty similar success rates so far (all requests sent in Nov and Dec were sent to home, though, so those numbers could change substantially).

I'm a big Red Sox fan, so I sent a lot of requests to Red Sox players. Here's some breakdowns (success/sent):

Sent c/o Boston Red Sox - 5/13
Sent c/o Greenville Drive - 6/6!!!
Sent c/o Pawtucket - 17/31
Sent c/o Portland - 14/25
Red Sox ST - 14/45

Not sure why ST gave me so few successes....most who did sign were prospects, so I'll probably not send much to ST this year, and wait for prospects to go to their teams to send.

I really got back into the hobby in 2007, and with the successes I have so far, I can say it was a success. Any more that come in from 2007 requests will just be icing on the cake.

Another interesting tidbit - I didn't send my first request until 1/31...meaning I sent an average of more than a request a day the rest of the year. Wow!

2008 should be another busy year....I already have over 90 cards pulled of active players for 2008 requests!

Of the other folks who track their TTMs, how did you all do?

Here are my stats:

79 sent
2 RTS (Al Worthington--address wrong and Tony Oliva)
1 Return but no signature (Tommy Harper)
11 Waiting Right now including three that were sent in August.

All but one sent to home address.

I was lazy the first part of the year and did not begin sending any until June. I am basically working on retired players and mainly Reds' players from the 1940's through 1970's.

I wish I kept mine. That will be something I do in the New Year. I am also keeping a log on how much I spend on sports cards and memorbilia

Wow....so the other 65 (79 - 1 - 2- 11) were successes? That's an amazing percentage!

Here's my breakdown for 2007 so far. I count successes for the year they were sent, meaning that if I receive a success in 2008 that was sent in 2007 then it's a 2007 success. I hit my goal in 2007 of sending out at least 1000 requests in a calendar year. My total spending on hobby related materials, cards, signing fees, postage for requests, and TTM Site maitenance came to $4764.11.

2007 BASEBALL Sent - 845 Received - 617 (73%)
2007 BASKETBALL Sent - 30 Received -18 (60%)
2007 FOOTBALL Sent - 170 Received - 103 (60%)
2007 TOTALS Sent - 1045 Received - 738 (70%)

2007 Spring Training
Sent - 330 Received - 222 (67%)

My totals:

335 sent
164 received
--------------
49% success rate

335 sent
11 failures
--------------
3.3% failure rate

I did better in 2007 than in 2006, that's for sure. In 2006, I sent 353 requests and only had 146 successes, or 41.4% success.

I divide the total amount of successes I received in 2007 (whether they were sent in 2007 or not) into the success rate.
