This rookie was a member of the starting rotation for a club as they won their first World Series. In the Series, he achieved a first. The following year, he pitched a few games and his career was over. He was one of the last, if not the last of this ball club to be tracked down when they observed the 20th anniversary of their first Series championship.

It may help if I point out it was this teams' first World Championship. Not the first World Championship for the franchise. If you could see the first and last name on his birth certificate, you'd probably wouldn't get the answer without the help of the internet.

That last clue helped a lot. Was it Les Straker, who pitched for the 1987 Twins?
He's a Venezuelan, the first to pitch in the World Series. Being Venezuelan may have made him hard to find. And his name doesn't sound Hispanic to me...

Right on.
Lester Paul Straker Bolnada (did he mary Ford?) old enough to git it?
I seem to recall reading in the papers that they had a big of a challenge tracking him down for the anniversary.
