the mizuno is a 33.5 inch glove, while the wilson is a 34.
you must be a real big catcher or have big hands if your gana use these gloves. try them on in the store first, and see if the pocket of the glove corresponds with the pocket of your hand ( the space between your thumb and index finger.)

Have you talked to any of your team mates who are catchers?

ask them if you can try it on for feel.
REMEMBER
Game ready catchers mitt takes some time to break in.

im the only catcher left on my team from last year. our other catcher had a pro preferred. unless i find a good deal, im not getting one of those.
this mitt isnt for this coming season, its for the 09 year in college.
the stores around here only seem to carry the pudge model. so its not like i can go out and try these on.
the mitt i have now is a 34" heart of the hide and its comfortable for me, thats why im looking to stay at the same size or around the same size. i like my glove a little loose.
the only reason why im looking into a different model is because im not so sure i want another black mitt.

I only use Rawlings, so I like the HOH and Pro Preferred. But, I tried out one of my players All-Star mitts (like Varitek and some others use) and I really liked that as well. It was a little bigger than I like though. I like a 32.5 and this was a 33.5.

Rawlings HOH is all I will use these days.
Most gloves I have owned over the years have been Rawlings.
I would say Rawlings is my glove of preference.
Stay with the Rawlings.

Agreed... I vow to only use rawlings for the rest of my life...

As a catcher, ide say you should save up and purchase a more expensive mitt
The catcher's mitt is the most important mitt on the field, you must feel comfortable with it
Rawlings pro prefered tends to be stiff and the ball likes to pop out, it takes a season to break it in
The best mitt ive used has been a Kelley

Thats a really crappy reason to change what glove you get, especially if that is the only reason.

So if he wants a change in the color of his glove, he is not aloud to? He "shouldn't" want a different glove just because he wants a different color? Wow, gloves are style and personal.
If you really think thats a crappy reason you need... :hp lol

Check out HQ4Sports and order a custom Rawlings in your color with the back and web design you want. You'll pay a bunch for it, but you know how you want your mitt to fit and the piece of mind will be worth it in the long run. Work out some kind of deal with your folks (and follow through on the comittment) to get a matching contribution toward your mitt.
Good luck. Have fun and play hard!

I know people that spend 30 to 40 k on new cars that still run good.
If he wants to change his mitt because of the color let him.

I had one of their ~$75-80 mitts and it was a joy to catch with right out of the box. I ended up selling it to a HS catcher because he was right at the opening of his season and his (same model) mitt was beyond repair (recovery). I felt so sorry for him that selling him my mitt seemed like the only thing to do. My son doesn't pitch that much and I was able to catch him easy enough with a Rawlings GG model. But it was a lot more fun to catch him with the Akadema mitt. I would like to try a Glovesmith mitt, but I am a little hesitant to pony up with the bucks and I have that certain comfort level from experience with the Rawilings gear. I just believe you go with what you know feels good, unless you have the bucks to experiment and try something new.

son has 3 akadema glove and one catchers mitt.
so far so good.
If there good enough for a pro to be paid to wear them I guess they are good enough for my son. Gloves and mitts are personal preference anyways.
I told him I would buy him any glove he wanted and told me he want to stay with Akadema as he got older. I wanted to buy him a A2000 or the new A3000 Wilson glove but he just said stay with Akadema.
One of his glove is 1st basemans. He has a pure infield 11.5 glove and he just got a all infield glove 11.75 with a little funnel to it. The catchers mitt is the Akadema APM-41 Precision Kip Series 33.0 Inch Baseball Catcher's Mitt.
They put my son every where from catcher, pitcher all spots in the infield and a little out field. So I have him glove ready for every position. (dad is a gadget person also)
He love the action and control he has playing the catcher position.(catcher is his favorite position)

First apparently he doesn't know that he did this... anyway, no its not dumb! If they don't make his color, he should change. Its about feel. Its about style. He can change for any reason in the world and I don't care!

Maybe you guys can help me with a question on a specific mitt. Have any of you ever tried a Wilson a1000 or a900? for my 12yo, not hs level.

does anyone have an opinion on a mitt with a wrist guard? like the a2k? does it get in the way somehow?
