I almost gave up the hobby after I got Brandon Inge's card sent back for "wrong address" (the one in Harvey's book by the way).

But I finally got back a few from the Blue Jays that I had mailed to the stadium. I got the one back from Greg Zaun and three from Aaron Hill. I told him he could keep one but he signed and returned all three so that was cool. anyways, I'm not giving up the hobby now.

Merry Christmas people.

You were planning on completely giving up the ttm hobby just because of one RTS?

No. The six months before I received a response from anyone had something to do with it. That differs drastically from the results I've seen on here.

Thanks to the other 45 people who couldn't be bothered to write an encouraging word. I guess you all get autographs from every player you ask and you get it in a week or two.

thats not how it is at all
we usually send to retired players and ones that we know are good signers
active players usually take a long time to respnd
most dont even sign
and it also depends on how many requests you send out
that responses change drastically whether you sen dout 20 requests per day or 20 requests per month
and it depends on who you send to
if you send to stars, the response time is very long or no response at all
but if you send to lesser known guys, the response time is shorter and more likely to happen. im sorry that that happened to you, maybe you should research and pick who you send too more wisely.

My success rate this year came out to 71%, which is my best percentage ever. I had to re-read Tigers post over just to make sure I was reading it right. If I thought about giving up this hobby after a little dry spell, I wouldn't have lasted the 12 years in this hobby.

That's not true at all. I don't write to All Stars and expect a response. I write to the lesser known guys who don't get paid a billion a year.

And I know that you must be frustrated, but there is no need to get all sarcastic in your post.

Sometimes you can get a return you gave up on - I sent to Adam Miller, the Indians #1 pitching prospect in June, and never heard back. Last week, the card showed up in the mailbox, postmarked from his Texas off-season home. Sometimes, you just never know.

Thanks for your posts guys. I must say though that I have done plenty of research as to who signs and who doesn't. I also know to send to less popular players. I sent cards to Greg Zaun, Aaron Hill, Russ Adams I think, and then to Todd Jones and Brandon Inge. Inge must have moved after I ordered Harvey's book and Todd Jones may just be taking a while to write back. I have read that he is good for signing.

Yes I get very frustrated. Many on here have a very good record for getting cards back signed and I just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I was even writing letters following the tips I've found on here.

PS Bailiff, this wasn't just a dry spell. It was my first steps into the hobby.

It does get frustrating. Believe me. After I saw all of the success' on here with Greg Maddux, I figured that I would try him. A year later, and still nothing.

I wasn't trying to sound like a jerk,(even though I did, I guess). I just thought that you were giving up, because a few guys didn't sign for you. I like to think of ttm as legalized gambling, some win, some don't.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that Maddux has forgotten how to sign his name. Maybe you'll still get it sometime though.

As bailiff said, it's like gambling I guess. I was very frustrated but I am thankful for the ones who were decent enough to respond. Hill even signed all three instead of keeping one like I said he could. I guess BJ Ryan and Frank Thomas were too high profile though. I'll remember that for the future.

I remeber a couple of years ago when BJ was with the Orioles, and we went to their fan fest. No one really knew the guy, but we did from sitting next to the bullpen and such, so we got a picture with him and got his autograph. Sad to see how guys make themselves known, and suddenly forget their old ways, but that's what happnes when they see what they sign being sold. And I just started TTM this year, it is tough. I thought I would never get a Jeremy Guthrie response after a while, and I really wanted him. Well, 109 days later it came back, personalized and its now one of my favorite 'graphs. I got about 50 percent of my cards back, and I'm pretty happy with that. I guess its kinda luck and researching who signs, and who doesn't.

I send out a lot of 8x10s and I'm nearly 100% on them. You just gotta be patient. The only one I haven't got back yet and I knew I probably wouldn't was Koufax. With that being said, it could still come back. Just look at the photobucket and you can see that its definitely worth it to stay in this hobby!

Thank you guys for your examples of patience. I will look back to this thread in the future many times I'm sure.

Kinda scared to do the 8x10 thing right now though.

That's not what I've read on this site. In fact, I've read that he signs AND sends a Christian card as well.
