I just bought this bat my 1st wood bat. It came in today and it is very nice the only thing is I have never conditioned a wood bat to play and know nothing about it.

I was thinking of using some hockey tape and Pine Tar what do you guys think I should do?

Ps. I have to do this ASAP because I have a showcase on the 27th of Dec.

How do you condition a wood bat to play?

The hockey tape makes a good grip and will hold your pine tar nicely. I never condition a wood bat, just get out and swing it on a good pitch to hit. Good luck at your showcase. Have fun and play hard!

Thank you I hope I do good at the sowcase. I'm not going as a hitter/fielder but a pitcher but I think I might have to hit.

Also I bought pine tar and red hockey tape to go with the red maple wood bat. So it matches lol I had to do it.

RIstar, you might want to condition yourself first. Using a woodbat is much more difficult than a metal bat.

Get lacrosse grip tape. I just steal my brother's lacrosse tape. It works really good. I'm sure out on the east coast that you could find a ton of it for cheap. Its cheap and its durable. all of my bats are w/ lacrosse tape, except for my exo. I used some hospital tape. Its perfect! Its soft and its tough. It is white to, so it looks cooler, because you can see all of the pine tar in it.

I use whats called a hockey roll for my grip. http://www.bubblehockeydirect.com/handlewrap.jpg The picture only has one way with grooves though.
I first take a strip of tape and roll it so its round and sticky on all sides then I put it on the bat like I would a grip .... then I do the same thing the other way so they criss cross up the bat. After that I put one layer of tape over it and try to make the whole thing as thin as possible. Sometimes people do it too thick and it gets rather heavy so make sure its as thin as possible but it feels great and is easy to grip. I will try and get a pic tonight or tomorrow for you. --- I do it on aluminum bats too.

I'm currently 15 throwing in the range of 70-74 or 75 which is pretty good.

The thing about the lacrosse tape is if you do it right, there will be no wrinkles or bumps.
