Catching instructor Dave Weaver has a great site, The New England Catching Camp, with alot of useful info on it...I think Dave frequents this board, so maybe he will come on and give you some pointers. Otherwise you may be able to contact him through his site.

Metsbb809,
This is the most common question I get asked as a catching coach. The best way to evaluate footwork is first to evaluate your runners-on stance.
Do you have a pics of your stance, and if not can you describe the stance to me.
1. Are you on balls of feet or do your heels touch the ground?
2. Where are your feet pointed? Up the baselines? or straight ahead?
3. Do you drop your right foot back from your left?
4. When you go to throw tell me where your right foot goes, forward? how far? is it on your midline ot does it end up in front of where your left foot used to be?
5. How deep are you in your crouch? Are the top of yout thighs parallel to the ground? or titled back and down?
Answer these questions and I can give you some thoughts.

Dave Weaver.
If you are a catcher - I would suggest you not go to any tryouts if you have any technical doubts. Dave can help.

Dave's got some great instruction.
I will just give you this in regards to stepping. A former MLB and current AAA catcher told me last winter that in regards to working when throwing to second, he uses the upside down "Y" approach. Just visualize a catcher facing you and stepping down the shape of the letter "Y" with the feet.
Obviously there is a lot more involved with balance, ball transfer, etc., but this is just talking about the feet.
Biggest thing he said is make sure momentum is going towards second. A lot of players have their body momentum taking them towards third when trying to throw to second.
