Looks like the Phillies have aquired first-baseman Valentino Pascucci on a minor league contract. He has been invited to attend spring training with the 2008 Phillies. Hopefully he'll show off his goods and be able to play ball with the boys this upcoming season. So, who is this 6'6" 235 lbs. giant from California?
Pascucci played his 2007 season with the Albuquerque Isotopes (Triple-A PCL) and from what I saw, he is an amazing player. He lead the league in homeruns (34), and finished with .284 AVG, 93 runs, 98 RBI, and 27 doubles. He also participated in the Triple-A All-Star game in which he batted 1-for-4 and drove in two with a lead-off homerun.
He has also played for the Expos under Frank Robinson, and played in the World Baseball Classic under Bobby Valentine.
Another Albuquerque Isotope that was invited to spring training is catcher Paul Hoover. I don't think he'll be playing in the majors any time soon. He has had complications with his knees because he's 6'1" 210 lbs. and he only played 31 games last season.
