Since I can't post images on pms, here is a question I wanted to ask John doyle through pm's, but couldn't...
"I've always wondered this... it will be hard with out drawing it and explaining in writing, but here it goes...
Ok, I have a log. Its about 3 feet in diameter and 5-6 ft tall. Its around... 100-140lbs (estimate). If I take the log in bewteen my legs... my hands are holding the end. Then I lift it up untill it is up fully, then I push it over... however the twist is I powerfully push it over. Its like in the world's strongest men competitions....
Look... its this but alot lighter and smaller. Also it is not as tall, so I push from the top more... a little smaller than me.
You just kind of run and push at the same time... its hard to describe!"
Is this a good exercise?
**** sub question, will the log make a sound if no one is around?**********
Yes it will!!!! It has to!

if technique is good yes. But with long log that become difficult. A better option would be tire flipping.

How do you do that?

How do you do that?
Tough to explain through words...but basically get a huge tire (can get one at dump or tracker trailer supply store for free)...find an open area, squat down, get hands underneath tire and use your legs to lift and at asome time pull then push wiith upper body and flip the tire

If no one is around no
Yes it does, it has to make a sound if no one is around. It isn't going to change...

I think I may have started a debate that will never end with that one.

I say yes it will make a sound.
And to get back on topic of the real question, like anything make sure you are lifting correctly or you will end up hurting yourself. Personally I'm not a fan of log or tire lifting because you are more likely to be in an awkward position. Stick to workout equipment at the gym with guidence from a fitness instructor who has trained in how to correctly to workout.

After living in the out doors most of my life I have spent considerable time walking around in the woods and I wood agree that trees make noise when they fall. But as I was sitting in my "Secret Spot" during past hunting season's over the years I have nodded off thinking about this very subject. So one day I tried to fool the trees by dressing up in full camo and sit in my "secret spot" motionless hoping I could see/hear a tree not make noise. They always made noise, except for this one sneaky time I feel asleep in the woods and noticed that a tree had fallen while I was asleep. To my amazement it did not make noise because sure enough a tree the size of the one that tipped over close (just missing me) to me did not wake me up. So you can see I tricked the tree into not making noise while someone was around it when it fell over.
Now if this is not scientific fact enough I guess I will just have to Pray for your spiritual understanding. Oh by the way Merry Christmas all and a Happy New Year
Sincerely yours,

Actually odd object lifting can be much simplier (from motor movement aspect) to learn in some cases. For example a tire flip vs. a power clean. Most struggle a while learning the power clean, while just about anyone can do correct technique on a tire flip the first time they try it.
Of course proper tecnhique must be used, but it's basically squat down, pull and press.
