Hey lets go after Harden instead of Haren and Santana. Reason why not santana is because santana is 29 and at a point in his career where he is about to decline. Why not Haren because he just came off a season that has inflated his stock and if we trade for him it is a high risk we are overpaying if Haren doesn't repeat his performance. Why Harden? He has great stuff, great command and great ace potential;he is also only 25. Furthermore, we would not have to give up any top prospects to get him maybe a few midlevel guys but we would have to give up very little of the farm to get him. What do you all think?

Wasn't he hurt last season?

Why does everyone think that you wont have to give up a top prospect to get these guys? Especially from Beane, who has been known to fleece people in trades.

I agree, that's why I'd be very reluctant to deal with Beane at all. He is extremely shrewd.
As for the proposed Harden deal, he's looked great when he's played, but the guy can't stay healthy. He's started to look like the AL version of Mark Prior/Kerry Wood. If he could be had for a package of lesser prospects I'd consider it, but Billy Beane will likely be looking for more. I just don't see why a trade needs to be made at all. The Yankees pitching staff looks ok, and the three young guys could all end up being just as good if not better than guys like Bedard, Haren, and Harden. I just don't see trading for these guys being worth it.

The good thing about having lots of pitching prospects is that you can replace them if they fail. Assume that Wang and Pettite will be fine, and Mussina can step in if need be (big assumption, I know). That means that of Hughes, Chamberlain, Kennedy, and Horne, any two can fail and the Yanks can still be in good shape. It's a nice feeling.

UPDATE, 12-4-07 at 11:09pm: Hank Steinbrenner weighed in on the Haren-Yankees talks, calling Billy Beane's request "ridiculous." The Yankees are out on Haren.

lol I am guessing Beane asked for Hughes and Chamberlain or something like that just because Haren has had one full season.
Well i mean we don't need to make a trade and our rotaion looks fine wit petite wang chamberlain hughes and kennedy but for some reason the front office seems intent on trading for a starter so i thought why not do it for a low risk high reward player instead of a decline pitcher or one that is going to cost us prospects. I believe though we will have four front line capable rotation pitchers by end of next season wit Kennedy very close. I believe wang will have added to his repetoire because of Girardi and making him capable of being a real ace. What do you all think?

Just think about it guys
If Santana wins 17 or 18 games and Hughes wins 15 or 16
Where's the great difference?
Hughes could wind up being a monster post season pitcher also plus the Yankees are keeping Melky
Maybe the Yankees are better off that the trade fell through
It could wind up the Yankees thank the Twins for not wanting that trade

I thought you wanted the Santana trade to go through?
BTW, I think that Hughes will win about 13-14 games next season.

What about getting him to be a 6-7th inning guy? he has dominant stuff and the taxing on his arm wont be as much, plus we need all the bullpen strength we can get next year.

Why does anyone treat the public comments of Hank Steinbrenner as gospel?? Does anyone seriously believe the Yanks are out of the Santana and/or Haren bidding just because Hanks says so?? All it would take to get the Yanks back in either of these deals is a hit to their pitching corps or a proposed deal from the trading partner that is a little more in line with what the Yanks were thinking.
