..According to ESPN he might be going to Baltimore.

The Orioles and Dodgers may be close on a deal that will send left-hander Erik Bedard to Los Angeles, a baseball source said. The O's are in need of a center fielder and a closer who can play at the major league level, and the Dogders seem willing to part with outfielder Matt Kemp and reliever Jonathan Broxton, who could come in a close in lieu of Chris Ray, out for the year after Tommy John surgery. "They want Bedard bad," said the source.

The consensus in the Orioles forun is that the Dodgers offer the best choices for us in a Bedard deal. GM Andy McPhail has stated that he wants "three magor-league ready position players" for Bedard. Well, that is not Broxton; he's a reliever, but I'm not going to complain. The only question is, who's the third player?

Rumors started with the deal including SP Clayton Kershaw... but Kershaw is not "major league ready" unless he makes a huge jump from half a season of AA ball. Is 3B/SS Andy Laroche the other player? Doubt it, but I'd love to hear it. Same goes for 1B/OF James Loney; I reeeeally like him.

btw, I would not put Kemp in center field. Kemp looks like the kind of guy who's just going to get bigger and slower as he approaches 30--but he's the corner OFer the Orioles desperately need to pair with RF Nick Markakis, and Kemp scored his best range factor in LF by far (so far).

I have no problem resigning Corey Patterson for CF duties... or finding one through another trade.

Dodgers would be stupid to do this IMO. Broxton is a future closer and kemp is probably going to be a guy who hits 30 home runs a year.

This seems like it would be a great trade for the O's.
To get Kemp and Broxton plus 3rd Player....all for Bedard.

I know, and dodgers get a pitcher to go along with 3 other guys who will probably win 15 plus. Not worth it IMO. We might as well give somebody Kershaw and go ahead and get Santana or Cabrera.

Oh please do that!
I'd love it if Santana went to the Dodgers! Make the deal happen!

I'd much rather see Santana in Blue than in Pinstripes or at Fenway!

I don't know who started the rumor, Baltimore or Los Angeles. But in any case, I think this is just a ploy by the O's to give other GMs a rough picture of what it would cost to get Bedard.

If that is indeed true... then it is a very good move by McPhail. And he owes the Dodgers a cold beer.
