And Ryan Church.

Uh... interesting.

Not good. Not good.

Lasto still could have fetched more.

How many borderline starting Cs do we need?

Church can be effective as part of an outfield platoon, but that's about it.

With big time pitchers possibly on the market, now is not the time to be dumping prospects/young players with potential for bench players!

Wow...at first I though this was a rumor or just a bad trade proposal being made by the OP but they actually did it. This could go just as bad as the Kazmir-Zambrano trade. With Johnny Estrada already aboard I dont see the logic in this trade.

This is just a bad trade for the Mets. I don't see why they did the trade or why they let Milledge go so easily.

Nothing will top the Kazmir trade, lets just clear that up!

Agreed the Mets could have gotten more for Milledge, possibly. His stock I'm telling you is not as good as people make it out to be. The guy shows flashes of stardom and thats it.

Maybe the change of scenery, a new team will change Milledge, great, but it was not going to happen as a Met!

To me this is addition by subtraction. Not to mention I was utterly SHOCKED  when I saw the names, simply because they weren't latino!!

because he's an immature punk that only showed flashes of being a star at limited times. So far he's been more hype then hit, and you should know that has been typical with the Mets PR that always pumps their kids and farmhands more then what they really are.

Will Milledge get better as a National, in a new park, with a different team, and away from the NYC spotlight? Maybe and for his sake I hope he prospers. But it wasn't happening as a Met!

As far as I'm concerned he was already gone on that final Saturday in September when him and Reyes acted like two punks in the Marlins game, and the only reason Reyes is still a Met is because he's so valuable to the team.

Could they have gotten a pitcher and should they have? Probably, but I'm not crying at all, SEEEEYA Lastings!!

Horrible trade. Unless the Twins/A's are stupid enough to like Church or Schneider. The Twins might if they like Coco Crisp.

Didn't Beane like Milledge? We could have traded Milledge and Heilman for Blanton I think...

I like Church a lot as a player. He sat before this year because...

In fact if he has some time before free agency, I think he's better (for the Twins) than Milledge.

weird...

the mets just didn't want Milledge on their team, that was certain. Getting Alou instead last year was already a real sign for that...

It's all the more puzzling because they just signed Johnny Estrada to catch. I know Lastings has had some clashes with the organization, but if your looking to get rid of him, why get a position player that you've already taken care of, why not go for a good utility player or a good prospect?

Very strange.

Actually Estrada wasn't signed as a free agent. He was acquired for 2 reasons....

A.Because the Brewers took Mota(who was being booed out of town) and his whole salary.

B.They felt they needed a backup plan and/or leverage to get a better catcher.

They got Alou because they needed a very good right-handed bat to balance the lineup. Milledge's probably wasn't going to be ready at the start of the season.

By dealing catcher Brian Schneider and outfielder Ryan Church for Milledge, Bowden appears to have set his outfield with Wily Mo Pena in left, Milledge in center and Austin Kearns in right.

Milledge for Schneider & Church?

Lastings Milledge 22y 1.88 0.272 7 29 27
Brian Schneider 32y 2.05 0.235 6 54 33
Ryan Church 29y 2.74 0.272 15 70 57

Church and Schneider are better then Milledge.
I could not understand a such deal? The Nat's made mistake.

Except that Milledge has that great quality: potential.

I thought that they could get alot more for him. A couple quotes from BBF about this time last year:Also regarding the Bonderman rumor, the thing I find most interesting is that while the Tigers have played around with the names of Corey Coles and Carlos Gomez, Milledge was taken off the list by Minaya. This should give you a bit of an indicator that Milledge is here to stay and left field will indeed be a Milledge/Chavez platoon. The Mets are taking serious looks at Jeremy Bonderman. The Tigers want, at the very least, Jesus Flores and "some other prospects" (although this would not likely include starting pitching...although Milledge has already been ruled out, oddly) for him.Bonderman would be the logical choice because he's being shopped. Dombrowski, according to the rumor I read, could care less about Michel Abreu and initially wanted Milledge, but Omar said "no."So what happened?

He was rushed and his value suffered.

Now there are indications that Elijah Dukes is headed to Washington as well.

Bowden must have a thing for troubled players.

Bowden must have a thing for troubled players.

I figured that was already pretty obvious.

But I'd say that an outfield of Peņa, Milledge, and Dukes sounds damn good. Extremely young and talented, assuming they can all stay on the field.

"So what happened?"

A season filled with injuries, off the field-issues, and inability to hit a breaking ball can sink a player's value just like a torpedo...

They're becoming the Oakland Raiders of baseball.

The Tampa Bay Rays traded another troubled outfielder Monday, sending Elijah Dukes to the Washington Nationals for minor league pitcher Glenn Gibson.

Due in part to others being injured, Dukes began this season as Tampa Bay's starting center fielder. The rookie batted .190 with 10 homers and 21 RBIs in 52 games.

He was optioned to the minors on June 22 and placed on the temporary inactive list after he was accused of violating a protective court order his estranged wife obtained after she said the 23-year-old Dukes threatened her and the couple's children.

"We have a plan in place for him," Nationals general manager Jim Bowden said. "His book hasn't been written yet. Just the first two chapters. The rest of the book has a chance to be special."

Well done. The Nat's have nice outfield with three young players:
CF Duke 23y
LF Pena 25y
RF Milledge 22y
Kearns is the first RF, in fact.
